It's been a while! Are there any creationists out there who don't accept or deny the theory of evolution? [Spirituality & Religion]

Are you up to debating the relative merits of the evidence for evolution and creation?
Do you have any questions about, or criticisms of, the theory?

I'm here to debate and educate馃檪

I'm going to chum the waters here.

I think placing "creationism" across from "evolution" or "natural selection" is problematic.

Natural selection is just the differential survival of phenotypes leading to the selection of traits which can be subsequently passed on. There is absolutely nothing controversial about that from a religious or scientific vantage point.

"Creationism" really should be put across from "ambiogenesis" or the natural process of life arising from non-living natural phenomena. That is a better pairing for debate, and gets into murkier science and philosophical questions :)

Hey, eh Celine? I know what you think you're doing is right but honestly, it just causes more problems than it solves. I've been there... many times.

I was once aggressively atheistic (not saying you are) but it only made me less rational. It took a lot of questioning of my own axioms to feel more comfortable with my beliefs.

By all means challenge people, Lord knows (pardon the irony) it's healthy to question the status quo! You'll not find a greater advocate of the scientific method and critical thinking anywhere. I am in love with the universe and pursue its understanding (somewhat obsessively).

Just be careful not to alienate people with different beliefs. It's easy to do, as I said, I used to do it often. I came across as arrogant which immediately made people dislike me. Now, how much you like somebody should have no bearing on how you view them intellectually, but unfortunately human bias means it does. You'll get further if you don't make my mistakes; my advice is to listen to what the other person is saying. I find it really helps me understand the way they think... because at the end of the day you cannot take a person's faith away from them. They have to choose to let it go, and the harder you try to ram the steeley might of science down a theist's throat, the quicker they'll spit it out.

Would love to talk nerdy with you though - to see what you're made of! 馃槍

And your qualifications to "educate" the rest of us on issues related to evolutionary change and creationism? Any background in biology, geology, et alia? What is your bias?

@Celine Anyway, you showed more patience and politeness than anyone else so far. I know that the topic is too involved for this site. It really needs a classroom setting.
