Do you believe in God? Why or why not? [Spirituality & Religion]

I was raised Christian, but frankly, I couldn't understand how a "kind" God would let horrible things happen to good and innocent people. I've been an atheist for over 10 years, yet I find myself wondering about religion sometimes.

Edit: Wording.

I dislike cults and things that we can not prove exist as they always move the goal post Plus I know the start of Christianity and it is stolen pagan traditions

Ask yourself the question...does God let it happen or does a human make a choice to do wrong? If God controlled every move we made we would simply be puppets not people with choice. Just food for thought...not going to debate:)

I personally believe in free will, which is a conflicting topic in some religions.
micheyk · 26-30, M
Which religions?
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@MrMolderburry I would say most religions believe in free Will? There may be some that do not:)

I don't believe in any sort of God, mainly along the same lines as yourself. What sort of God would allow pedophilia or children to suffer? Now, that doesn't mean there can never be a god of some sort. I feel like anything is possible since we know hardly anything about the Universe and what's in it. There could always be some extraterrestrial that exhibits god-like powers for example. For now thpugh, since there's no real evidence of any god as of yet, I don't believe.

@SW-User Exactly, I could have listed hundreds of reasons myself, but it boils down to why would an all-knowing, all-loving God let people suffer. Plus, if there is a God, it is likely that we humans are on such a lowly level evolution-wise that we wouldn't be able to comprehend them.
I believe in some sort of God but I don't follow any religion

I think that people are making all that harm not God.Wars, poverty its all made by us, and i look at this all as an exam.God just gave us time that we can see how bad we actually are...And those innocent people will get their rights when the judgement day comes. It's just my way of looking at the whole thing :D

God would work through magic; through wishing power. I think this is the wishful thinking of Man.
MrMolderburry · 31-35, M
@SW-User This is how it seems to me, that an omnipotent creature made everything and can control everything based on wishes or prayers.

@MrMolderburry Besides, we can perfectly argue eternal life without the need of God as the explanation.

@SW-User This blew me away. I've never heard it put quite like that before :-)
AbleSankovik · 26-30, M
From the little I know it's because he gives 'us' free will. Or so it's said. But I guess the little that I know would be hard to explain , if I would even be able to explain it 'correctly'.

I believe in Lord Jesus. The Father sent his son to bring them along with him back to the Father in Heaven.

Because no sin can inter without a sinless one.

That's how I Understand and Agreed with the Holy Spirit. Its been 8 or 7 years of a long walk before I completely understand the lord.

Yes I beleive in God
religious people are mentally ill.
"if one person claimed it they'd be locked up"

nailed it !!!

@GlueGun 👍cool
MrMolderburry · 31-35, M
I can see where you would disagree with those people, but why would you label them as mentally ill? And if they stop believing any of that book, what does that make them? Suddenly not mentally ill?

I don't know what to believe in about God. I can't be certain. I don't believe there's any way to know for sure either. You need faith.
Nyanperona · 26-30, T
I don't believe in the christian god desipite being raised as such. I found my true calling in Wicca and ive never felt more at home
PeanutsauntieP1982 · 41-45, F
I believe in a Creator. (I'm Buddhist).
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Yes of course I do. I'm a Jehovah's Witness.
Mankind is suffering from their (our) own doing.
They were taught differently but didn't follow God's commands.
If a parent taught their kid to not touch the stove because it will burn them, and then the kid does it anyway, the parent is not to blame. God even went so far as to put a wall in between us and the stove, but we climbed on right up over it, and we still do it till this day.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
You don't have to believe either one.
I personally accept that frankly I have no idea what is going to happen when I die. I don't know if nature or some being alters our lives or if it is just us.
I've let go of the need to know and just live my life the best I can.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit Pretty much this. I enjoy philosophizing about such things but I fully accept that it's an unknown that will likely never be solved.
