Aren't babies born atheist? [Spirituality & Religion]

They don't have an understanding of god, therefore they can't believe in god.
If they lack a belief in a god then they are by definition atheist.
I don't think so, as being atheist would be a choice and babies don't have any real awareness of the world around them for some time to make choices like that.
@MetalGreymon
I think if someone doesn't bow to your pie in the sky opinions you don't like it. That's not a sign of maturity as far as I'm concerned. Toodle pip go play with your Lego set. Chat some more when your brain comes to maturity. You seem so anal right now. 😂

@Cutiepi23

I believe when you can't debate a subject, you're forced to attack your opponent's character and motivations.
That's known as an ad hominem logical fallacy.
Look it up and get back to me.
Maybe after you've done some of that maturing you're so excited about...
lol

You are dismissed😴
Is that what YOU believe your so up your own arse you blind. I was nodding off to sleep way earlier than you or were you to busy fighting the wasps in your head you never noticed.

As Billy Connolly would say "Shut the feck up" your a boring basket case. Who cares what you think anyway. You and your debating class garbage. Do you think you can put your dictionary down for five so you can catch a breath. 🖐 bye

Technically maybe, but really just like a child should make up their own minds about a religion as they grow, they come to their own conclusions about being agnostic or atheist.

@Pherick

lol not so amazing if you ask me.
Turns out gods are essentially just powerful humans. Not surprising since humans made them
Pherick · 41-45, M
@MetalGreymon We want our gods to be better than us, but then we make them human :)

There you are then! Or muslims
JustKelly · 36-40, F
I think Agnostic would better define what they are.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@JustKelly
One says there absolutely is no god.
Nope. An atheist says "i believe no gods exist" or " i find no reason to believe gods exist".
As a rule, no atheist claims to know that absolutely no god exists.
So if you're agnostic then you don't know if god exists or maintain that there is no way to prove god exists.
That means if asked "do you believe in god?" you must at least answer "i don't know".
You haven't said 'yes, i believe in god', therefore you lack belief that god exists. Therefore you are an agnostic atheist.
JustKelly · 36-40, F
@MetalGreymon Well you can choose to continue to believe that if you want, but you are wrong. I invite you to read a dictionary or encyclopedia. You cannot choose to change the definition of something just because you do not agree with it.
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@JustKelly
but you are wrong
Wow. VERY compelling counterargument😏

Definition of agnostic. 1 : a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (such as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god.

Not committed to a belief....So...provisionally lacking a belief in god.
And what is someone called who lacks a belief in a god?

lol bingo
SW-User
Yes, of course,
and they are born NON racist and sexist too, they are taught these things by their environment and people they grow up around.
Firespirit · 22-25, M
I never understood the need for that word
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@Firespirit

It's a means of communicating a meaning. Like most words...lol
Firespirit · 22-25, M
@MetalGreymon why label yourself something that you lack
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@Firespirit

I guess because the alternative is so ubiquitous
ZoneingOut · 26-30, M
No, babies are babies they don't "believe in god" they don't not believe in god.
they don't even know about a god or that there isn't a god or that they have a choice in the matter to believe in anything.
there for they are "nothing" just babiess they don't believe or not believe
want to get real weird they'd be agnostic because at that age "you really don't know" lol
MetalGreymon · 36-40, M
@ZoneingOut

Well what you can actually say is that they neither believe nor DISbelieve.
They can certainly lack belief.
And since (as you point out) babies don't even know about god they certainly can't believe that he exists.
And if someone lacks a belief in god/gods then they are an atheist.
Planktin01 · 22-25, M
Sure but what's the word for barely being able to think at all.
