Question: If everyone believes that both of the choices were bad...why not choose someone else?

**Warning: The Somewhat Rare Serious Post About Politics**

I mean it's pretty easy to see neither Trump or Hillary were the best choices, but everyone seemed to forget that they weren't the only choices.

It's like going to Walmart (Keeping the American theme going here) looking at the first shelf by the door then thinking "Well I must buy something from here or nothing at all"

There are very valid reasons why neither of them should even be let into Washington DC, let alone The White House...but there were quite a few other candidates that didn't have such luggage.

I was making this same argument throughout the entire campaign. This was the first presidential vote that I was able to participate in and I was disgusted with the choice. The third party candidate that I voted for was only marginally better, but he was better. 😞

I would have voted for the Green or Libertarian party candidates in the last election but they both sucked too. In my opinion, there really was not a single good choice in the last election, not even a lesser of evils! But I should've just voted for fucking Cthulhu and went with the greatest of evils.

You aren't understanding WHY trump was elected. Repubs rejected the establishment repubs because they say one thing and do something different. It was a message, a message reminding them who is boss. We don't work for them, they work for us. We're willing to teach this lesson until they get it.

Well, why waste a vote on someone who doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Essentially you're giving your vote to the one you think is worse. In this case it would have been like voting for shrillary. And she was not better than trump by any stretch of the imagination. Most of my adult life it's been a choice of voting for the lesser of the evils. I doubt that's gonna change so better get used to it.

@katielass It's not a waste of a vote;
because voting for someone is better than voting against some perceived boogeyman of a candidate
because you're supposed to vote for what you believe in
It's because of this very thought process that this country is stuck with these two out of control major parties.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@katielass Why waste a vote on someone you don't believe in either?

If someone doesn't support Trump OR Hillary then why should they HAVE to vote for one or the other? There were an immense amount of people who voted like that, they didn't exactly agree with either of the two candidates but still voted for one because they didn't bother looking for other options.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Niburu Agreed, the far right and the far left are not groups that compliment eachother, like their less extreme counterparts, they tend to stay within their own groups and demonise the other, not making any progress in any direction except backwards.

People are just highly unlikely to vote for the person or party they like most until they become electable. It is why a lot of people don't vote lib dem in the UK and it is why in Scotland a lot of people started voting SNP even if they may have supported their views long before. Once they showed they could win an election they got these votes. Give an independent in the US the money of the Republican and Democrat candidates then they might stand a chance.
I voted for another candidate but I'm still sad about the outcome
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@BiasForAction Then there were the many that didn't vote...which is sad because they take it upon themselves to scold others for their choice.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
That's easy. Not everyone believes both choices were bad.

Good point but the reality is, the vast majority are only ever going to vote for the main party candidates.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Because the masses don't bother to do their research...seriously most of them don't even bother to look into who they're voting for, basing their vote on "If they like them" or because they said a quote they agreed with.
Niburu · 51-55, M
I voted for Johnson, I have no regrets.
What the rest of y'all were thinking I have no idea.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Fault in the selection system or in the voter apathy ?
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
That wpuld involving thinking and investigation
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I thought voting no confidence was the best way to go if you didn't support one
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit It's even starting to get a little scary...like what happened to that guy who just posted a meme that Trump happened to like, they threatened him then blackmailed him into taking the meme down and making a public apology :/

It's not like it was anything more than a meme either.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
@Fangirlsarah1996 People get insane with politics.
I have seen good people on different sides of a political fence claim how stupid and evil the other one must be. It is so easy to do that. To try and disable your disagreeing party's opinion by shouting negative assumptions instead of having intellectual conversations to hear why the two of you disagree. It is not something anyone should be proud of.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit Both sides have expertly succeeded in demonising the other, I can say that much about the situation.
