Why do people think single-payer healthcare is communist?

The name even contains the word "payer" which implies the existence of money. And that's directly opposed to communism.

I get free healthcare here in Australia because of a visionary former government of ours. Anyone that wants to call me a commie can get down and suck it...meanwhile I get free healthcare
@softspokenman Yes you are right. What I am really aiming at with my comment is about people who live below the poverty line. People who dont earn enough to pay tax. For them it is free and rightly so
👍 @Mandalorian, People helping people. If we can't rely on each other than what can we rely on ?
@softspokenman 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I would be for single payer healthcare because it is going to be much cheaper but it is not fair for people who take care of themselves and are responsible. Why should I share cost with someone who smokes, is 100 pounds over weight, does not ever exercise, has type 2 diabetes because of their chosen lifestyle, has 4 kids with no father in the household, and lives in government housing on the public dole instead of working. Granted I picked the worst example but you get the idea. If we are going to share benefits then we need to share choices. That means control over what you do or don't do as a beneficiary of the program.

@PissAndVinegar I think Communism has worked best in China. They have developed an awesome system where the rulers compete against each other to keep it on track.
@Subsumedpat, You used a STEREOTYPE as a fear factor to keep people from taking care of each other so that a few greedy profiteers can live in luxury at everyone else's expense. No one alive is here by choice but some believe that they deserve more than everyone else because THEY say so and some people worship them.

Because most don't know what communism (or even socialism) is. It's been our country's bogeyman since the Cold War. Even if it could be proven that the taxes people already pay were being used to provide healthcare that they could all take advantage of, many would refuse it.

@PissAndVinegar: I didn't think we disagreed about that much. I guess you've been holding your tongue.

Because that's what their propaganda media tells them. They lack the intellectual capacity to actually learn something.

Most people who rail against communism literally have no idea what it is.

Giving more power to the federal government. What a great idea.

@PissAndVinegar: I can't speak for anyone else why they think it is communist. I do know that giving more power to the federal government is dangerous. The feds get more power, the people get less.

Nothing in life is Free but paying someone a profit for a scam called healthcare does seem obscene no matter what they call it.

@PissAndVinegar The USA pays, "PER CAPITA", the highest amount of most other countries but actually receives less than most in services and care. (Ref., World Health Organization.) We can simply call it, American Universal Healthcare. "By the people for the people."

No, I think it's stupid. But it appears some are determined to learn the hard way.

Ignorance. 'Single' is even more opposed to communism.
