@Psychoticenlightment: I guess that would force states to solve that problem

I'm guessing most red states would shut if off entirely, or nearly so.

@OggggO: The facts don't support your assertion. Before the feds "took over" welfare most states had their own welfare system. The only change that came about when the feds took over was they skimmed off about half and wasted it, leaving less for the needy.

@katielass: And how long ago was this?

I'd like to say, can't be any worse...but I know that's not true!

@Wingz1969: At the least, it can't be worse everywhere. I think it would lead to more progress in effective ways of having welfare systems.
JerseyGal · 51-55, F
@Invisible: progress would be good. Never know unless attempted.

Many forms of assistance are run that way. The outcome would have to be judged state by state.
katielass · F
clearly some people weren't alive when the feds took over and don't know
Given the way that sort of thing has worked out in other countries of the feds divesting themselves to their equivalents of states it can't possibly go right except in maybe the wealthiest states for no other reason then states by definition have less money to go around to begin with and any program does not run on pixie dust it requires funding. It is a good way to kill off programs in a way that is politically safe.

Half the waste would be reduced to 1/4. At least.

Certainly an interesting thought

I don't trust fed
icyreb · M
taxes on the working middle class would rise astronomically.

@icyreb: Yeah. I do think that the entire welfare system needs to be rethought though.
icyreb · M
I agree. even common sense stuff like when a lady hit the lottery for a million or so, and she was still allowed to collect food stamps and social benefits.. I mean, duh..
SW-User
@icyreb: Yeah the system needs to be cut back drastically. The government enables people to depend on it way too much instead of fending for themselves.

The states couldn't control the movement of people
SW-User
@Lizabee: That is a double edged sword. States with good welfare programs would have problems with an influx of people, but states with lesser welfare programs would be getting rid of non contributing members of society.
Lizabee · F
@Masarch96: and their workforce. Try again. Lol
swirlie · 31-35, F
There would be no 'Welfare'. That is why Welfare is taken out of the hands of the State.
