Which UK political party has the best policies?

CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
Do you mean the most rational, honest, workable policies that will benefit the lives of the people of the UK and the wider world?

...or do you mean the policies that will get them elected despite being unworkable or outright lies?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@ChasingBrainBros: LOL. Corbyn is indeed too nice. Don't think we want nastiness but a bit more decisive would help. See Podemos and Bernie Sanders.

I agree with you but for me (and you I think) its a secondary issue when it comes to who to vote for. Its about the policies and what they will do. I asked this question because most people don't know or think about policies, they go with stories and personality, which is a shame.
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
Exactly, but knowing this, we need someone who is happy to work to this mandate.

You can't complain about losing the game when you know the rules and refuse to play. Elections have been won by charisma and bravado for a century.

Policies are so important, but what good are they in opposition?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@ChasingBrainBros: Well yeah. The game is rigged but you still have to play it.

I am obsessed with political strategy actually and there is a lot to criticise about Corbyn. My own ideas on this are influenced by Laclau and George Lakoff. The former has written about constructing a populist narrative against the establishment. The latter about framing and effective use of language. The entire left of this country could really up its game by using those ideas without losing a single principle.

The one good thing about Corbyn personally is his honesty. He was never a natural leader and never expected to lead the party. Lets not forget also that he won because the Labour Party (including its 'soft-left') had collapsed intellectually, strategically and morally.

I think what you are saying is that if you had Corbyn's policies but with a better 'salesman' then it could work. I completely agree but for various reasons Corbyn is the best we have for now and at least you can trust his integrity.

Labour have some pretty good ideas.
Would be good to hear more about how they envisage a 'post Brexit' Britain.

@TheCoolestCat: LOL. If he makes weed legalisation a manifesto pledge then I reckon you would join Momentum. 😂
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
its only a matter of time before that goes through.... sure some kid who lives near me was the first person in the UK to be prescribed medicinal weed, it only takes one person to get the ball rolling

They are all too lefty
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Gauntlets28: I do know what you mean but I disagree.
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
@MasterLee: I guess you'd probably know better given that you live there and all. I do think having a broad range of parties is good for democracy though. Even the crazies should get a party, even if only to keep them away from the sane people parties.
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
@MasterLee: It's nice to talk about this sort of stuff with someone who's not rabid for once by the way, so you know.
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
labour probably..... whos gonna vote for the conservatives again when theyre promising to raise taxes and cut pensions,,, i think that was a really dumb move
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
I'd have to say I quite like the Liberal Democrats and will vote for them this time. I'm not a strong supporter of their stance against Brexit (sure I voted to remain in, but that screw-up is going to happen whether we like it or not.

And bringing it up in this general election is just going to give those toe-rags in the government an excuse to divert attention away from real issues like they did in 2015.
The monster raving looney party duh!
Gauntlets28 · 26-30, M
@ILoveAStrewberry: They're my favourites. :P

@AlanPartridge:
You said you think nationalisation of the banks would be a good idea the other week. Which parties support nationalising the banks?
None. It is a radical left idea. Labour do support a national investment bank though which is a step in the right direction.
Why do all political parties support Israel and Zionism?
Its a complex issue and there are different definitions of Zionism. Noam Chomsky describes himself as a Zionist, for example. My own view is that I support a peaceful two state solution in Israel and that this can only be achieved by the US putting pressure on the Netenyahu Government, who I hate.

@AlanPartridge:
Everyone hates the current banking system and austerity, so why is there no party using that to their advantage?
There is a jarring dissonance between what people believe and what happens in political discourse. The Greens and Labour (at least Labour under Corbyn) are explicitly anti-austerity but the stories you will hear all about Corbyn's 'competence'.

What we see about politics comes through a lens. Our print media are explicitly right wing, with establishment liberals on the far left extreme. The BBC also operates within these parameters. UKIP have successfully played the anti-establishment card but its a fraud.
