The Chinese president is known for his pragmatic and strategic thinking. While Trump is talking of building walls he is travelling to Latin America building bridges, and signing large scale investments and contracts.

And he is taking climate change seriously. China has a long way to go in terms of human rights and income inequality but their status in the world will continue to rise both because they have competent leadership and because human rights and income inequality are areas in which the incoming US administration is going to be racing to hit bottom. Trump is going to all but throw away our soft power advantage over China.
