Shouldn't most production be localized to limit the carbon footprint of shipping and trucking?

Why are corporations allowed to hide the supply chains and spread them out so far?

What do you mean by "hide the supply chains?" Publicly owned companies are required by law to disclose such things to their shareholders.

@RedBaron sure. And in some other countries I can see the place where the food grows and the supermarket from the house. The potatoes that went into the chips in the bag? Nobody can say.
