George W. Bush Warns Republicans 'Won't Win Anything' If They Stand For 'White Anglo-Saxon Protestantism'
Former President George W. Bush suggested the Republican Party needed to reach out to a more diverse coalition of voters if it wanted to come back into power.

'If you Republican Party stands for exclusivity - you know, it used to be country clubs, now evidently it's white Anglo-Saxon Protestantism - then it's not going to win anything,' Bush said in an interview with The Dispatch podcast last week.

Bush was asked about a recent initiative from far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to form a House 'America First' caucus that's in favor of 'Anglo-Saxon political traditions,' with respect to immigration.

Asked if the GOP followed that path for the next three to five years if Bush would still be a member of the party.

'No I'd say there's not going to be a party,' Bush replied. 'You know, to me that basically says that we want to be extinct.'
I do find it funny how open Republicans are being with their fascism these days. Most of us know that the Right still hates Catholics, but they've been keeping that on the down low for a while.

@PrincessAwesome You have very good insight!

@PrincessAwesome Interesting. I think wasp possibly includes catholics nowadays - look at the Supreme Court. Pro-lifers congregate under a big tent. Your thoughts?
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@tindrummer I think that Conservatives know that when a marginalized group becomes accepted by the mainstream, they have no choice but to stop attacking them if they want to win elections. And as the demographics change, and the WASP percentage becomes smaller, Conservatives need to work with groups they secretly hate or they'll really have no chance. This is what happened with white Catholics, then women, then gays, and soon it will be trans people. So that's how we end up with Republicans putting women and Catholics into positions of power.
However, after seeing how Trump's dog whistling to white nationalists worked in 2016, the Right is starting to think they can win again if they go even further Right. Maybe they can win back some of those WASPs who lost faith in WASP nationalism.

@PrincessAwesome It'll certainly be interesting watching all this play out won't it?
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@tindrummer Yes, it's why I'm obsessed with American politics. It's insane.

Is HOW they think they can win again that is a threat to democracy - by restricting the voting rights of citizens who would otherwise cause their defeat.
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@beckyromero That's another thing. Not surprising, since they made it pretty clear during the Trump years that they're opposed to democracy.

@PrincessAwesome That is so stupid it will create a black hole in the universe. Such ignorance makes my head hurt

@eli1601 boy you just have such good arguments for your side. 🤣😂😉
monte3 · 70-79, M
@Slade did you miss January 6th? Did you miss the denial, without evidence, that the election was lost? What other definition of opposition to democracy be than “not accepting fair election results?
Slade · 56-60, M
@monte3 Jan 6, scary insurrection. A bunch of misfits were let in and not a one had a weapon, nevertheless one of them skeery AR-15's.

In revolution 101 bringing guns with you is the first thing they teach.

Yippie skippy you got your senile dessicated old weirdo in. Man, he's even older than you Methuselah.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@monte3 Nobody on your side made an argument 😉
monte3 · 70-79, M
@eli1601 seriously? Read the above posts that you replied to. First that the right is becoming more open with their fascism. Now you could disagree and say why that was wrong or you could show no thinking and go 🤣 🤷‍♂️
monte3 · 70-79, M
@Slade January 6th was an attempt to stop a legal election. People were killed and yeah it was a scary spectacle. Nothing like trump p’s refusal to accept defeat, egging his supporters on with baseless claims and calling them to Washington on Jan 6th has ever happened in this country before.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@monte3 That's an argument. 😂
monte3 · 70-79, M
@eli1601 lots better than stupid face. 🤷‍♂️
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@monte3 Not much 🤦‍♂️
monte3 · 70-79, M
@eli1601 possibly true actually. 😊
