Landlords are people, too!

Landlords need to eat. They need to pay for their own housing. And they need to pay property tax, utilities, and probably at least one mortgage on that roof over your head. You think we LIKE coming around every month to people who can't or won't pay rent, asking for money? We have enough problems with repair work, bank payments, and city employees yelling at us to cut the grass, trim the hedges, etc. (Things the tenant could be doing, by the way...)

So yeah. Keep complaining about how fascist it is that you're expected to make a monthly payment for a four-bedroom house with a full kitchen in a nice neighborhood near a good school. Because I'm the dirtbag for offering that service for a monthly fee, when you're entitled to it and I owe you.

Because demand for housing is somewhat inelastic, at one segment it’s always going to invite c*nty behavior from providers - a bit like healthcare. The solution is the same, really - competition via public option and/or subsidies for the poor.
