Conservatives very upset about gas prices rn

Which is fair, gas at high prices does suck.

But also gas isnt a product of the government lol. It’s a global commodity.
Funny though how it’s people in liberal states who get screwed the most by “Green” policies. Glad I don’t live in one of these Communist utopias.

Gavin Newsom and the Democrats have a one-two punch to force you to use buses, trains and bikes to get around. By doing so, continue the isolation of citizens from one another. First, by 2035 no gas powered car will be allowed to be sold in California. Second, Democrats want to ban new gas stations from being built—the third step is to limit the number of stations is a town, possibly forcing the closing of half or more of the stations. That would cause long lines to gas up, cause traffic jams and possibly double the price of a gallon of gas.
“Many of these proposals emerge from the belief that by reducing the availability of fueling sites, they will reduce the amount of fuel consumed. This assumption is naïve at best, or textbook NIMBYism at its worst. Despite California’s intended goal of phasing out combustion engines, the fact remains that a vast majority of Californians continue to drive gas-powered cars. These Californians still require fueling sites within reasonable proximity of their homes or places of employment. This direction will not drive consumers to replace their vehicles, but will instead force them to travel greater distances out of the way to acquire the fuel they need to make their commutes and get their kids to school.

Sacramento, CA – In response to emerging policies banning new gas stations in localities across the state, the California Fuels & Convenience Alliance issued the following statement: “An alarming trend is spreading across localities in California. Various localities throughout the state have started down a misguided direction, banning new gas stations within city and county limits, through ordinance or moratorium. This single-minded approach will ultimately cause greater harm for communities than any potential benefit. “These bans also reduce vital competition within the community. Competition between businesses is imperative for both businesses themselves, and for consumers. Under basic economics, this forces prices for commodities to remain competitive. In a basic sense, this means the more available retailers of fuel there are, the more competitive prices must be kept. Additionally, as businesses vie for patronage they also work to stand out amongst competitors, offering new and innovative products and services. In this vein, business owners look to continually update their physical storefronts, as well, keeping building facades updated and attractive to potential customers. “This competition is the very crux for many stations to invest in new fueling options, such as electric vehicle charging and hydrogen fueling stations. The gas station industry has spent over 100 years identifying the most efficient ways to fuel communities. Even under the argument that the fossil fuel industry is waning, existing gas stations are the best positioned to transition to new fueling infrastructure. With the advances in fast charging that we have already seen and the technological breakthroughs on the horizon from the EV charging industry, it is short-sighted to imagine a future where cars take an hour to charge. As charge times decline, the familiar corner gas station is the clear choice to best serve Californians. Convenience is one of the major objectives for stations, and something the industry continues to perfect serving as a one-stop-shop to meet the needs of their customers. This alone will serve as a primary factor in driving the strategy for new transportation fuels. “The state needs to build 60,000 chargers by 2025 to hit their goals – building urban and suburban charger density would be best accomplished by partnering with the existing service providers, the billions of dollars of existing infrastructure, and the century of experience in safely providing fuel to consumers. “Consumers also enjoy the benefits of competing brands for meeting their fueling needs, with many seeking to patronize certain preferred providers. As the state struggles to meet the needs of its expanding population and providing adequate housing, communities continue to expand. Essential commodities, like fuel, must continue to be readily available for California’s expanding and developing communities. “California’s gas stations are held to the highest levels of safety standards and regulatory stringency in the world. They provide goods and services to every community in the state, create stable employment opportunities, and serve as economic catalysts. In many cases, fueling stations are also a leading source of local tax revenue, providing much-needed funding for public services like police, fire, and school districts. The fuels and convenience industry must continue to be a part of the discussion about California’s future, and not become another casualty of narrow-minded and naïve policies.”
It’s a report on California’s plan to eliminate gas powered vehicles and a reply from the California Fuels & Convenience Alliance. The first part is what Newsom and CA liberals intend and the second is the rebuttal from the CF&CA. These are not my opinions. @NoahB

@stratosranger so what is your opinion?
Dictating to people what they have to drive is un-American. People on the lower end of the earning scale cannot afford electric or hybrid cars. Used electric or hybrid cars are not ideal vehicles when it comes to reliability and are much more expensive to maintain than their fuel burning counterparts. Electric vehicles still in the end rely on one thing: fossil fuels to recharge them. Solar, wind power also are technologies that still rely on fossil fuels to create them and are just as damaging to the environment. In the end trillions are going to be wasted on technologies that only rob Peter to pay Paul and hurt those that are in the middle or lower classes of income. @NoahB

What's funny is that low gas prices were a symptom of a dying economy; when the economy goes to shit, commerce declines, and so businesses use less gasoline. So they're basically crying about the fact that the recession is ending lmao.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
I guess if your government keeps sending soldiers to war, the least the people expect is low gas prices otherwise what are they even fighting for lol
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@NoahB yep, same money though. Nothing is done unconditionally, wars cost money so they want oil in return.
@HannibalAteMeOut actually, wars generate more money than they cost. Regardless of them finding any type of oil
NoahB · 26-30, M
@PepsiColaP yes. war is the ultimate profit motivator. People used to laugh at alchemists that said they could turn blood into precious metals.
When a republican is in the white house they freely admit that Gas prices have nothing to do with the President, when a Democrat is in the white house and gas prices are high they pin it all on him.

to the republicans gas prices are only the fault of the president if a Democrat is in power.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots oh yeah fer sure lol. gas was 4-5 bucks under bush and they were like "look...... it has to be that high because were fighting a stupid and pointless war rn..."
@NoahB The saudis have been trying to destroy Shale gas, blame the house of Saud.

Like I've said consistently it's time to end the Alliance, they are NOT an Ally, it's a miracle we aren't BOMBING them like we should be.

True. But our gov't also creates policies on their own that inflate the price

For example - shutting down major US based pipelines forces our dependence (at least in some part) on middle eastern or foreign oil, which is obviously going to cost more.

This administration also feels that Americas purchasing of Middle Eastern oil helps "stabilize the overall global economy" by not having refineries shut down and letting them continue to produce (at record levels). Whereas the last administration was trying to be energy independent and wasn't really concerned about the global market/supply. I could also argue that foreign oil has had a monopoly for decades and if they happen to struggle, so be it.

People have different views, my point isn't to argue them - but there are multiple variables that affect the price at the pump and our gov't has a sizable impact on it as well.

@QuixoticSoul More bullschiff from a left-wing nut job cultist. Amusing
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Completely irrelevant nonsense from sporty, shocking.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul Yeah, just a bunch of slopes, not a part of the new world order, so the hell with them, right?

You mean we're not a socialist/communist country where the government sets prices?

So, I wonder how President Biden is doing it? He owns energy companies? He invests in energy companies? His son's laptop?
Yeah, it sucks that the economy is improving and demand is higher. Thanks, Biden!

I'm not so sure those are real conservatives. Somewhere along the line, people who worship Hidin' Insurrectionist Baby-trump started calling themselves conservatives without actually believing in, practicing, or upholding conservative values. It's technically a steal of a political and economic position.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I find that interesting.
Considering so many of them are probably utility shareholders.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@NoahB Oh sure ! Gas; Electricity; Phone companies; Water companies....
All those businesses they were 'keen' to ensure had 'stimulus help' over the last five years or so.
GERRI · 51-55, F
@Picklebobble2 and you believe the Biden family hasn't any of the same investments? If you believe ANY in DC aren't guilty of what equates to insider trading then allow me to persuade you that I am the smartest human to ever live.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@GERRI Oh i don't trust Biden any more than i would Trump or Obama or Bush jnr or any of the rest of them.

So there's one assumption YOU made erroneously !
As to whether or not you're the 'smartest Human' to ever live......I think you established the truth of that yourself.
TexChik · F
The added taxes are a socialist thing in the US ! As are all the new restrictions and attacks on the oil and gas industry . Stupidity is expensive
TexChik · F
@NoahB nope .
NoahB · 26-30, M
@TexChik lol will you stop posting these big ass jpegs at me? I can read 12 pt font just fine you dont need to blow it up to jumbrotron size.

The ironic thing is that they're perfectly in line with the prices under Trump, before the pandemic.

TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
Where do you think that gas comes from?
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@NoahB It has to be made from oil long story short you can get it from certain places in the US but liberals don't like to create their own gas because that's bad for the environment however it's better in their opinion to pay for it from other countries at a higher rate
NoahB · 26-30, M
@TheRascallyOne not just liberals lol. you see all these republicans cozying up to the saudis?
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
@NoahB Yeah it makes me sick
