Geez, the images coming out of Texas are grim.

people lined up at a single working faucet for water, icicles hanging off ceiling fans, bathtubs filled with a solid block of ice, and storied of a couple people being frozen to death.

really sad. hope everyone in texas is okay.

It's awful. We miraculously still have power but haven't had running water for a week. Houses down here are built for rapid heat release, which means they hold very little heat even when you have a heater. So imagine how cold it is when your power is out.... yeah it's not Minnesota or Canada level winter. But for a state that doesn't get winters like this and isn't at all prepared for it...it's terrible.
@DearAmbellina2113 great. Can ask those neighbors to let you charge your phone and water can be boiled in an electric kettle
@DearAmbellina2113 if people help each other they can manage to survive in difficult situations

@mysteryespresso Texas just doesn't work that way unfortunately. People here are very Libertarian and believe in "to each their own"...meaning they help themselves and leave the others to the wolves.

I'm no fan of Texas, but geez, what those people are going through is awful. I really hope the weather warms up soon, because it looks like the power company doesn't have a clue.

@independentone hopefully my fellow texans will remember this and kick the fascists out of our state - Cruz, Cornyn, Abbott, Paxton - all a bunch of rich opportunistic QAnon fuckers

We are hosed, we were gathering snow for drinking water today. This is what happens when the corporate Trumpy far right is in charge of providing basic essential services. Welcome to Texas.

The USSR also experienced massive failures in their power grid and other infrastructure right before the fall of the empire...
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Quetzalcoatlus They say that the average life span of an empire is about 250 years. Americas about 243 years old so....
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Yeah this is fucking awful. Complete governmental failure and millions are suffering from it.
Where can you find those images?
NoahB · 26-30, M

This is the reality of Consequence. None of us ever learn the lesson.

I have Texans in my thoughts and wish them what little warm weather we're having today in FL. Things will get better. Take care of each other, help each other and wait for the cavalry - it's coming.
