Trump impeached for second time - 10 republicans crossed over to vote for impeachment - thoughts?

Donald Trump now holds the record for not only being impeached more than anyone in history, but he doubled the amount of representatives from his own party to vote for his impeachment. Previously 5 Democrats voted to impeach Bill Clinton, Trump managed to double that number and have 10 Republicans vote to get rid of him.

@Stereoguy When it comes to preserving democracy, you bet we never quit. Trump needs to be disqualified from ever holding federal office again.

@Stereoguy Trump needed to be held accountable for his actions. Encouraging an insurrection is just plain wrong and he needed to be impeached over it. If not that, how about his trying to bully the guy in Georgia to just find 11,780 votes?

@Stereoguy Trump is the most anti-democratic president in the past 150 years. Why would anyone vote for him?

Are you threatening a Civil War of disillusioned insurrectionists who prefer a monarchy?

@Stereoguy Trump has lied about the election since November 3. Even you believe the lies! There is no evidence of voter fraud. None. Over 60 court cases have found none.

Don't assume the violence is over. Trump loved it so much last week that there is a high risk he will call for it again and support it wholeheartedly.
@windinhishair I hope you're wrong about the violence, but I'm afraid you may be right.

@independentone Trump has poisoned so many people with lies that it will be very, very difficult to prevent it. Still, at least in DC, buildings are heaving guarded by the National Guard, and they are well-armed and trained.

@Stereoguy They can vote after Trump is out of office. It is just as important to prevent future campaigns of hate and violence.

@Stereoguy Being in a minority of voters and being lied to, to the point where they believe lies, does not justify violence. If the Trump Cult commits violence, they will be dealt with appropriately, as they should be. Only when truth prevails and there are consequences for the violence and lies can we unite and move forward.

@Stereoguy I suggest you read the impeachment language in the Constitution, as well as the 14th Amendment. He most certainly can be disqualified from future office, and if anyone in our history needed to be, it is him.

@Stereoguy
Article II, section 4 provides that officers impeached and convicted “shall be removed from office”; Article I, section 3, clause 7 provides further that “judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”

Because conviction requires a two-thirds vote, this means that removal can occur only as a result of a two-thirds vote. Unlike removal, disqualification from office is a discretionary judgment, and there is no explicit constitutional linkage to the two-thirds vote on conviction. Although an argument can be made that disqualification should nonetheless require a two-thirds vote, the Senate has determined that disqualification may be accomplished by a simple majority vote.
And because the Senate will be under Democratic control, Democrats could disqualify Trump by simple majority without Republican votes.

I may have to move to Florida or Texas, or any red state really. They are coming for Trump supporters, and want to put them in deprogramming camps. If you think they are bad now, wait until he’s in office. These tyrants are acting like Nazis. First, they’ll go after high profile conservatives, including Congressmen and women, and Senators who supported Trump. They are making Trump into a non person, and then they’ll progressively come for everyone else. The only sanctuary for conservatives is the red states ... I hope. @Stereoguy

@Stereoguy
That vote in the Congress won't stop him from running again. If you want him back keep up the heavy handedness.
Tbh it could well be attractive for republicans to bar him from seeking office - that way he won't try to run in 2024, get the nomination, and then proceed to lose because he's goddamn radioactive. Republicans have a better shot at the presidency in 2024 with him out of the picture - and quite a few republican senators are eyeing a 2024 run.
74,000,000 people voted for Trump. They feel the election was rigged and stolen.
These people are seriously dumb, and need to be relentlessly mocked until the appropriate level of shame sets in.

@Stereoguy 74,000,000 people have been fed lies and believe them. That doesn't mean people who live in the real world have to cater to them. The quicker they stop believing lies, the better off they will be.
