For men who are pro life: what would you say to being told that you don't have a right over your own body? Because that's what you're telling women.

At the end of the day the issue is SO simple:

Whether or not you consider a fetus a person, it has o right to a woman's body.
If it's not a sentient being, much less a person then of course no argument will be made.
But even if you DO consider it a person then it has only the rights of any other person and NO person has a right to make use of another person's body against their will.

I agree with this to a degree but women are the only ones capable of carrying a baby. The man also has to live with the fact that their child’s fate rests in the woman’s hands.

@Keepitsimple Once conception happens, he has no say. The woman can abort even if he doesn't want her to, or bring the child into the world and force him to pay child support, even if he has no interest in being a father. He doesn't get to make these decisions.

@graphite I totally agree with you! That’s why people need to think about that before sleeping with somebody. I personally wouldn’t have an abortion if I was single and hell, if he didn’t want to be a dad just sign your rights away and leave us alone. The kid will or will not look for you eventually but no use spending 20 years fighting.

There's lots of guys who became fathers and had to pay child support for kids they never intended to have. Even some famous celebrities have had to deal with this (Darryl Hall, Tom Jones, probably a lot more).

Yup.

@graphite Thats a chance you take when you have sex. It could change your life in so many ways that you never wanted.

That’s why you should never sleep with someone that isn’t parent material@Keepitsimple

@Mindful Or at least be on birth control to try to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

@Keepitsimple if unwanted, definitely! The extra Caution because “accidents” happen

@Keepitsimple been there , all that mattered was her point of view
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@Jake966 Thats typically how it goes. I mean if I was raped I don’t know how I would deal with it. It’s not the baby’s fault and it’s a constant reminder to the woman about what happened. As for me, I wasn’t raped but I chose to keep my baby and give her a family.

@Keepitsimple good for you ! That is what a true woman should do . Does the dad take part in rearing the child ?
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@Jake966 That doesn’t make me a true woman, just a good mom I hope. We are married and all the kids are grown now. This was when I was 22.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Keepitsimple ok cool , that’s making the best of a “bad” situation
Viper · M
@Keepitsimple true, but women also have to trust men that they'll assist and help too, and it won't just be then (which two often happens).

So both side need to trust the other.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Viper correct ! I don’t think much of a man who hits a woman or renigs on his responsibility to care for a child he helped bring into the world
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@Viper No. I absolutely disagree with this. When I decided to keep my daughter is was about me and her. If I could do it, if I was ready, what I wanted for her and the best for her. He was secondary because at any given moment he could walk out. None of his words had any real weight but they were helpful. Also coming from a divorced family whose fathers child support checks bounced if he did pay, freezing in our house and being hungry made me think twice.

@Keepitsimple Exactly, the woman has to follow up with 9 months of action, while the father basically just has to follow up with only words.

Since actions are greater than words, it's an unfair trade, where the woman would have to give up more.

@Viper Its a bigger commitment than being married.
Viper · M
@Keepitsimple yup, marriage might only last a few weeks and no outside parties might not be effected.

Bringing a kid to the world (or even considering it), is whole other level!
