America's Two-Party Corporate Duopoly

Before anyone goes there, the person in the YouTube video talks about how he knows that there's ideological differences between Republicans and Democrats but that their disagreements lay in aesthetics, not actual policies. When examined closely, their policies are exactly the same, even when dealing with Trump. Really puts things into perspective.

The American political system is such that there will effectively only ever be two political parties and that those two parties will be fundamentally the same.

However, there is also a more “logical” reason for the similarities between many political parties.

The developed countries have tried every political and economic ideology available. We have discovered which ones yield results and to what degree. We have seen which ideologies can be easily manipulated to cause tangible harm and which ones are more robust. We have evolved all of these ideologies to effectively reach a status quo. And, far more importantly, all of our socio-economic and socio-political problems have remained the same.

The same problems will inevitably yield the same solutions. It’s only at the extremes that those solutions vary.

@room101 We all know you don't elect politicians to change things, you elect them to stay the same so agreed.

Yes! Just like when Democrats and Republicans manipulate their base by telling them they're going to make things better and it never happens. You're right.

Yeah, American parties are suuuuuper close in actual policy, which makes all the handwringing about how the socialists are taking over really fucking funny.

Even on wedge issues like immigration republicans and democrats are basically the same, their split is not over anythings really substantive, one side just wants us to be more overtly dick than the other.

Both parties have become extensions of corporate business. They compete with each other, but it's more about protecting their donors than helping the rapidly disappearing middle class.

Bernie Sanders started calling it out years ago, and has managed to get his views mainstream with the democrats

There’s no difference. You can tell by the deafening silence of the Republican Party right now.

It's the same in Ireland and the UK. Whoever you vote for, you get basically the same outcome. The differences are purely aesthetic.
