What are your thoughts?

I was made aware of a group of people today (I have no idea who they are) who will be voting for Trump, but for a different reason. They believe the kind of change that our country truly needs will only result from a disastrous failure. (Like burning the grass to make it grow back greener) They see Trump as that failure. I guess the disaster will get people worked up or something, pretty much forcing the change that we need. I'm not sure, honestly. Do you believe this, or know anyone who does? How do you/they think it will work?

Its an idea with a long history and its called accelerationism. The ides that you enhance the contradictions to bring about a crisis and then have the chance to build something better.

Lenin was kind of a proponent and a lot of people have tried this since. Three big problems though:

1) A crisis means change can happen but a crisis is tough. There is also no guarantee that things will get better and not worse. People who say now is as bad aa it can get have an awful tendency of being proven wrong.

2) People who support this strategy make themselves complicit with the problems. Why wpuld people listen to them after this?

3) The nationalist right, not the left, is best positioned to take advantage of crisis given the balance if forces and institutional strength, in America and globally. The left needs time to build, if it is to have any chance at all.

So in short, your friends have a really bad strategy.
