I've been a registered Democrat for 18 years

Born and raised working class. I don't mind helping out my fellow Americans who might be going through a hard time or don't have the means to properly provide for themselves.

Really don't have any idea what this means? I am from the middle class. I believe in fairness.. equality.. basic supports for those who fall on hard times. I largely approve of most social assistance programs. Even used public assistance a few times when down. But if anyone ever mistook me for a Democrat I would be deeply troubled and insulted. And I'm not a Republican. We have to drop this two party facade that is being used to control us through disinformation and demonization on both sides. Party politics is the enemy of anyone who truly wants to find a way to live in peace together.

Ok, but lets be real for a minute instead, these two parties control the legislation of our country, so take a stand and hold your ground. There's what, one Independent sitting on the Senate? If even that. We could nominate the Green party candidate as president, but Congress is still Republican or Democratic, and they run this country.

@Clouds: yes. These are facts. What if ghandi said.. look the British government controls ever aspect of our lives and is stealing our nation wealth. We have no army and no guns and we are poor and the British are the most powerful global power on earth. What would have happened. We as Americans as are most people are not imprisoned by political systems and cops and laws.. we are imprisoned by our own minds. That's the trick that keeps us forever subjugated. If you think it's hopeless and impossible, that's exactly what your reality will always be.
Nebula · 41-45, F
I never said anything was hopeless or impossible, there are people out there working towards a better future on a global level every single day. American politics is a totally different beast, and like it or not, serves a purpose. How many Americans do you know who are starving?

This is the reality as it sits.

@Clouds: if the republicans can pick up 6 seats, it would be better.
Coppercoil · M
@Clouds: think you may have missed my point, and I'm not sure I understand the starving question. Only starving people can achieve such revolutions? The people who founded this country were not starving. Revolutions happen when their is a will. If you are inferring that because people still in large have it too good to revolt on all levels of society, and still feel that in spite of the deep corruption and injustice, they can still game the system enough to eek out a life and avoid the potential perils of a revolution. I would agree with that assessment. However, I'm not here to force some ideology on you. I'm simply stating that identity politics is mind poison and counter productive to our shared goals and values as human beings. It's a weapon used agaist us by the powerful, and our lack of imagination and inner strength is what is forever keeping us down.
Nebula · 41-45, F
It's a reality we have to work within, within limits. That's all I'm saying. And the system is working in the regard that nobody in our country is starving, I'm talking big picture shit right now.

@Clouds: I'm sorry we're not speaking the same language here. I do however appreciate the time you took to try and reach a common understanding with me. All the best. :)
Nebula · 41-45, F
What language are you speaking? Looks like English to me, but your passive-aggressiveness is noted and appreciated.
Nebula · 41-45, F
Do tell, what revolutionary revolts are you involved in? I'm more for peaceful movements.
Coppercoil · M
@Clouds: I'm sorry you misunderstand me. I am not being passive agressive. It's just we aren't going to be seeing eye to eye at all. I simply don't know what I can say to better communicate my understanding of what is wrong with the way things are going and what I believe is the solution to fixing it. You very much seem to not agree and want to keep at it in a conventional sense. I was speaking very much in a mental spiritual sense, which leads to a real world change. I'm saying the mind has to change before anything else can change. Not everyone is receptive to that. I don't fault you, perhaps I'm a terrible communicator. I don't know. Some people see what I'm saying some don't. I genuinely regret if in any way I've irritated you.
Nebula · 41-45, F
So I'm asking, what are you personally doing to improve the world as it is?
Nebula · 41-45, F
I'm not asking in a rude way, I have a suggestion if you need guidance. If not, just carry on.
Coppercoil · M
@Clouds: this is a great question. I struggle every day with this question. I never feel I do enough. I feel like a constant failure. I think I do mostly what most people do. I give to causes I like.. I try and be a good person to those around me. I try to see when someone is trying to manipulate me to act irrationally. I often fail. I don't assume I am in any way helping the world more than anyone else. My only point on this post was just to point out that identity politics is not a good thing. I kinda feel stupid for saying anything now. Like a vegan saying to a meat eater don't eat meat.. lol. I eat meat.. and though I agree I shouldn't that it's not all that great in excess for the body or the environment, I still do it. Oh well.. see.. just there.. I learned something. Maybe I'll give up bringing up my feelings on the harm of identity politics. Who knows. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me though. I hope you don't think poorly of out conversation.

Check out the Zeitgeist Movement.

That's all we can do in this life is try and make it a better time for our fellow humans and also learn from one another.
Coppercoil · M
@Clouds: thanks, I read a bit. I'm intrigued. I suscribed to the youtube channel. I look forward to looking into it more.

Yes.. I agree. The sad thing for me is I have friends and loved ones on all sides of rhe political spectrum. Every day I smile, cooperate with and engage all kinds of people at work who I know have very different political belief systems. I've noticed if I am careful not to use words like conservative or liberal.. or hot button words or topics.. very rational discussions and common ground can always be found. But as if by brain washing.. as soon as certain words are said (political trigger words) that have opposing meanings to the individuals I'm speaking to.. all commonality is shut down and the spirit of working together to find common ground ends. This is the psycholiglcal mechanism that is being used, as if Pavlovian in nature, to turn potential allies into enemies on cue.
Nebula · 41-45, F
You can thank the media for that.
Nebula · 41-45, F
It's the same way with religion, super religious people are drawn to me instantly, but if I talk about my beliefs, they look at me in a completely different way. So I get that. I usually don't talk about politics, but it's all I hear about lately, non-stop.
