To the question of why Trump was absent at John Lewis's services:
"I don't know. I really don't know. I don't know. I don't know John Lewis. He chose not to come to my inauguration. I can't say one way or the other" [whether he thought Lewis was impressive].

"I find a lot of people impressive. I find many people not impressive. He didn't come -- he didn't come to my inauguration. He didn't come to my state of the union speeches. And that's OK. That's his right."

"He should've come. I think he made a big mistake."
Imagine any other person saying that.
I’m sorry. Anyone and I mean anyone who still supports Donald Trump has to be as empty and soulless as he is.
It’s the only possibility, as far as I’m concerned. 😞
monte3 · 70-79, M
Delusional is another possibility for trump supporters, but I l8ke empty and soulless better. 😊👍@bijouxbroussard

@monte3 @bijouxbroussard
I've read on the internet today that Trump Supporters are sensible people.
So... I'm all confused now.
Aww, John Lewis hurt Donny John's little feelings.
Trump is such a petty little man, how can anyone support the buffoon?

He's such an egomaniac. Good God. 😅
graphite · 61-69, M
Presidential appearances cause major inconveniences for anyone else in attendance. This is one of those "Democrats will damn him if he shows, damn him if he doesn't" deals. The mourners should be grateful that Trump didn't show and subject them to security checks, etc.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@graphite Really? How would he have been dammed if he did?
@softspokenman Yeah, the king of the NDA, suing everyone who comments on him for defamation—championing “free speech”.
@bijouxbroussard "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others." But, of all the more equal animals he is the most equalist or he will take it to the SCOTUS to prove it, kings can do that... because he has the books and manuals from his University where he taught Political Ethics and Freedom of Speech. 🙄 Biglyistly 😲
Pfuzylogic · M
He is a very small man if “man” is the correct term for him. He has no idea of what it means “to go high” for anything. That requires a mature adult.

This is interesting reading this thread, I will tell you that Trump is a laughing stock in Britain. No one takes him seriously at all. What we can't understand how many people in America he fools with his rants and speeches against anyone who has a different view of things than his own.
I hope the next leader of America has moral courage and some dignity whoever that is
Denise61 · F
@barney1 yes it's odd isn't it, how with Obama he was respected as a true leader and statesman,

it's now become look trumps on let's see what stupid comments he will make this time.

I actually wonder if he's a well man to be honest as if he isn't a lot can be put down to that
@Denise61 Trump slams Obama eulogy at John lewis' funeral "terrible" and "angry".

What I think actually happened. John Lewis’s family did not invite Trump and for good reasons.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Does anyone think Trump was welcome there?
If he went he'd be criticized and because he didn't he's being criticized, Lewis hated Trumps guts. Washington DC is one step above a Kindergarten class at this point.
Pfuzylogic · M
@FreeSpirit1
I take John Lewis at his word.
He had a reputation for integrity.
“We are one people with one family. We all live in the same house… and through books, through information, we must find a way to say to people that we must lay down the burden of hate. For hate is too heavy a burden to bear.”
Graylight · 51-55, F
@FreeSpirit1 I'm quite sure he didn't care for many of Trump's comments and policies, but that doesn't equate to hate for an individual. There is such a thing as respecting one's adversary.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Graylight You think he respected Trump? He called him a racist and an illegitimate President. Trump should have kept quiet, that's what grownups do in situations like this but DC is full of Kindergarteners.
deadgerbil · 22-25, F
Trump's supporters will justify it somehow
@deadgerbil They will indeed try.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Meh, if he had showed, you would have posted some outrage about that demanding to know why he showed up, how offensive it was that he was there, how tone deaf he is to show his face there, blah blah blah.... 🙄
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SumKindaMunster Please show your work.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Graylight Sure!

If story = Trump
Then Graylight runs story through TDS filter
Then result = orange man bad!
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SumKindaMunster So...you didn't prepare for the test.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
He had no problem last week calling that crazy doctor impressive.
THE PRESIDENT: But I can — I can tell you this: She was on air, along with many other doctors. They were big fans of hydroxychloroquine, and I thought she was very impressive in the sense that, from where she came —
I wonder if Lewis spending his last 3 years trying to destroy him and other innocent men (Brett Kavanaugh) had something to do with it 🤔 Besides, The chosen one Obama was there and used his death to give a political Rally for Biden. That was real classy huh?

Graylight · 51-55, F
@JT123 Not one single mention of Biden or the upcoming election. If it was a political rally, he really sucks at them.
Petty and pathetic "Nobody likes me" ?
Funtoy4u · 61-69, M
Why doesn't anyone bring up that Jimmy Carter wasn't there? He was from Georgia.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
@Northwest don't forget to note the response....oh wait, there isn't one 🤔
Northwest · M
@EuphoricTurtle noted 🤣
@Funtoy4u

[i]"To the friends and family of Congressman John Lewis:
Roaslynn joins me in sending our condolences to all gathered today to mourn the loss of one of our nation's great leaders.
Throughout his remarkable life, John has been a blessing to countless people. We are proud to be among those whose lives he has touched. While his achievements are enjoyed by all Americans, we Georgians know him as our neighbor, friend and representative. His enormous contributions will continue to be an inspiration for generations to come.
Please know you are in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time. We hope that your warm memories and the love and prayers of your family and friends will be comfort to you in the days ahead.

Sincerely,
Jimmy Carter

MarineBob · 56-60, M
I'd didn't go because I had an online golf game
@MarineBob So did Trump.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
@LeopoldBloom damn that's cold! 😄
@EuphoricTurtle At least having a golf game is a prior commitment. It's a lot worse to whine "but he didn't go to my inauguration." What a petty, immature piece of shit.
