"Endanger children and teachers or else!"

President Donald Trump put the nation's schools on notice Wednesday that he may cut off their funding if they don't reopen their classrooms this fall.

One day after he promised to put "a lot of pressure" on schools to reopen, Trump served up a new threat on Twitter.
"In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS," he wrote. "The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!"
The schools and the parents need to all get together and defy Trump, and his lapdog Betsy Devoid.

Don’t blindly and automatically do what they say. Insist on opening schools in a way that maintains health and safety for everybody.

If they just pretend COVID is over, and try to do everything as if it were 2019 - nobody will be safe.

Some kids are too young to realistically be expected to wear the mask and socially distance. Try it with a two-year-old....

Anti-maskers will send their kids to school - after they’ve done all the up-close-and-personal things that parents do with children. And if they’re anti-maskers, they and their kids are probably walking Petri dishes anyway,

Those kids will infect other kids. Who will infect their own parents and siblings.

They will also infect teachers. Who will infect their families.

Since this is a country where MONEY is more important than anything.....a lot of those infected adults will be forced to come to work sick. And infect more people.

@SmartKat @Graylight Thx for Best Comment. Is that a thing now? I don’t think I’ve seen it before.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SmartKat It's always been there, but I rarely see it, either.

I roll my eyes when he makes these types of empty threats.

This reminds me of when he threatened to send the military into Seattle and the Mayor told him to go hide in his bunker.

We need to stop acting so outraged at his antics.

@JoeyFoxx It's not that people are so outraged about his antics, it's that people should be reminded, everyday, why it's not OK for him to get re-elected. People have very short memories.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Northwest sure, but that should be the consistent message.

“Thanks for your input Mr President, but the adults have this. Ins’t it time for your daily bunker inspection?”
These type of threats from Trump may even cost him the support of some of his base. It is one thing to take a chance with your own health, but what parent is willing to risk the health of their child?
Trump didn't think this one through before he uttered his latest threat.

Not seeing any evidence of that. They're still flocking to his rallies.

None of the countries he mentions have dead and infected numbers like the U.S. has.

I don't think anybody's buying this line anymore are they ?
@Mindful German, but his grandfather was not allowed to come back after dodging the draft.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@independentone so, send him back where he came from?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Picklebobble2 if I were him, I’d live to go back Scotland! Everything about it seem so romantic!
Northwest · M
Yeah, the schools in these countries are set to reopen, and they also went back to school in May, but with new social distancing rules.

It is possible to reopen the schools, with social distancing rules / masks, but he should probably read the requirements developed by the various school districts and provide funding, facilities and personnel to make sure this happen. But he does not read and his Sec. of Education is only interested in a white supremacy utopia.

So, the only thing left is threats.
@Northwest Bingo!
Mindful · 56-60, F
It’s a complicated situation. But also, makes no sense to threaten people’s lives...
I do think there are still Partial options that should be considered including online school...until a vaccine can be produced for each county...

@Mindful every now and then, I get lucky

Nothing lucky about wisdom. It’s a gift you have or don’t or spend a lifetime acquiring. @JoeyFoxx
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Mindful that is kind of you to say.
introvertguy · 41-45, M
I don't imagine Trump would send his kids to school with a classroom full of other kids
@introvertguy Trump refers to his youngest kid as Melania's child. I don't think Trump cares one way or the other about any of his kids other than Ivanka, and he only cares about her because he has been groping and molesting her since she was a pre-teen
Mindful · 56-60, F
@independentone groping her? Molesting?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Mindful I have to say, I detest the man in a way they have not created words for yet, but to accuse him of crimes like that is uncalled for.

@LvChris It's the teenagers and suicides that have me worried, but I haven't seen stats.
