Among a certain set of American public, it has become trendy to ignore science-based advice when there is some sort of perceived conflict with their pet ideology.

For other examples see global warming.

@SW-User Of the 6200 who attended, (according to the fire marshalls) more than half of them were paid actors.

Because I've asthma and it fucks up my breathing, bought one tried it out round the house not happy with either my breathing or the amount of times I touched my face due to the irritation.

But as we've made em compulsory on public transport the only place I can now go is my local shop. Can't get to Dr's, dentists, appointments etc, not really working for me...
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@AntisocialTroll It's still gonna protect you from the virus though.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Masks are less about protecting yourself and more about protecting others. Ideally, everyone else wearing masks will help her safe, because asthma is supposed to be a risk factor for complications.
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@RodionRomanovitch A cloth mask isn't actually likely to help at all, the virus particles are smaller than the weave of all but the most heavy duty high thread count cotton, but the ones I've tried all restrict my breathing and cause irritation, an N95 one would help block 95% of virus particles but I certainly couldn't handle breathing in one of them!

The irritation it causes my face makes me keep touching it, that increases not decreases your risk of infection.

Currently I go out once every 3-5 weeks to pay bills or get ciggies, chances of me becoming infected are minute from going out as I'm doing it so rarely.
Selfish spoiled brats who only care about having a good time.

"Muh freedom" and such. People don't like being told what to do, even if it's practical or vital.
Here in Wales they are not compulsory and I have heard doctors on the radio saying they question their effectiveness,
And it so hot here today you would need quite a few with you because you’d be changing them frequently if you haven’t passed out because you had one on.A sweat soaked mask would not be nice. And I was sweating buckets after walking to the shops this morning. And it’s got a lot hotter since.

Masks are killing people? Mine seem inoffensive.

humphreyplugg to trump and his flock 🐑🐑🐑 it is though it is a badge of honour two finger to a virus the ginger moron called a hoax and a flu just showed his ignorance then and the arrogance now for not giving this virus the respect
Earthwrap · 41-45, M
I wonder if the person that posted in the comments about breathing problems is this karen. lol

Ironically the people wanting freedom to not wear a mask also want freedom for a buisiness to enact any policies they want, such as mask wearing.
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
Because their fuckwits that have no brain . If they refuse to wear a mask and get the virus then let them die its what they deserve , and will save them breeding any more fuckwits like them .
Why would a president politicize it to his own ends ahead of trying to keep his people safe ? There are morons here still trying to minimize it. Apparently they won’t believe it until they personally lose someone to it.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard It just shows what a cack-handed politician he really is. All that talk of him being some kind of intuitive genius looks pretty stupid now. He has one person to blame for his crash in the polls ..... himself. And long may it continue.

People who think it somehow violates their freedom

When you have such an impotent and piecemeal response by both sides of the political isle and by every organization it is understandable when many don't take it seriously. When travels bans from infected countries are scrutinized as being racist and hot zones aren't quarantined immediately while every politician and agency the world over tries to politicize it for those " points" well , people don't take them.seriously because those in the big leagues aren't taking it seriously and just using as opportunity.
Earthwrap · 41-45, M
@MethDozer Personally it just makes sense to be cautious until more information or evidence is presented to me. Even with the evidence it makes a lot of sense to me to be cautious. I think there is a huge overreaction to it all. People like to dramatise. "OMG I have to wear a mask for 30 minutes each time I go shopping for a few months. It's the end of the world!"
We only get one life. There isn't much you can do once you are dead. I've confronted nearly meeting my maker before and it wasn't fun.
MethDozer · M
@Earthwrap I agree. I normally wear it, except in the odd case I happen to run in unexpectedly then I just wait till there's no one else in the place and gtfo.

However my understanding of the importance doesn't mean I don't get why the issue isn't taken seriously. I mean when people are allowed to travel to and from highly infected areas to places with less than a small handful of cases or no cases it doesn't really seem to matter much and signals a lack of importance. Not when you're hammering on the small steps but ignoring and denying the much bigger and important ones. The idea is that we need to wear then to protect others, I get that and acknowledge that, but what about the responsibility of containing the much bigger threat by not allowing travel to and from the hot zones which are these Petri-dish urban areas where people.are packed together like ants in an ant farm? You can't expect common folk to take the little steps seriously when the big steps that are needed by our state governors and federal agencies are completely ignored and politicised when tried.
Take NYC and downstate for example. Most of NY's number are from there yet there is no quarantine of blocking travel to and from there as there should be. People aren't being protected from them yet they are expected to take a last ditch feeble effort of a face mask seriously. That's not how you get people to believe you, putting all responsibility on them to make a mostly token gesture when a much bigger threat of spreading it is completely ignored. But then again, that would be politicized as being discrimination and racist most likely.
Also, the most common face masks doesn't actually protect you, so the point of dying personally is moot. Yes we only get one life, and there isn't any real protections being made to keep people from going broke and in the gutter either.
strongbow · 46-50, M
Because we're not in a "deadly pandemic".. you dope
SW-User
@strongbow Don't worry. I'm in total agreement with you.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@strongbow They had a woman who went into a coma from COVID. SHe is ok finally but almost died. She was only like 32. She said I'm here to say do EVERYTHING you can not to get this because it's awful and I'm lucky I didn't die. (On a news station, with her talking from her hospital bed). Others who are older die from lungs suffocating themselves, and now younger people at rallies or bars etc are getting it. It 20 times worse than any flu
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@strongbow Lmao
