Hong Kong is losing to China and the world .... well does the world give a damn anymore?

Northwest · M
The agreement, was to leave Hong Kong alone, for 50 years, as long as Hong Kong remains "docile".

The Hong Kong camp, was betting that in 50 years, Communism will collapse in China, just like it was all around the world.

We have 27 more years to go, and a couple of things happened:

1. Communism, in China, morphed into Orwell'ism, a system of "democracy", within a smaller elite, that controls the larger society, and the overall standard of living, was up, thanks to the overheated economy, no poverty, medical services available to everyone, etc. When people are well fed, they are easier to control.

2. Global pandemic, and worldwide recession/depression. No one really wants to make waves.

Not looking good for Hong Kong, if the people of Hong Kong decide to resist.
@Northwest They gambled poorly...China will overtake the USA soon as the dominant global power..

@Mandalorian I don't know if they will overtake the USA, but this is not the pre-1995 China, that's about to collapse, any day now, under communism. China today, has near 0% people living under the poverty line. I think true democracy will eventually evolve in China, and Hong Kong and Taiwan could be the catalysts, just not today.

It was always going to end this way. If Hong Kong agitated, China would just curbstomp them. The situation between HK and Taiwan is vastly different. China will never allow democracy in Hong Kong. And now that unique Hong Kong culture will be lost. Probably go the way of Tibet.

There’s not much then can be done about itb
Rickg · 31-35, M
Well, tell me, what can be done @cycleman
cycleman · 61-69, M
@Rickg least people speaking out, standing together to create change.
Rickg · 31-35, M
Meh
The People’s Liberation Army knows how to deal with people that speak out and stand together
I think of things were to change it would require mass upheaval of the mainland Chinese people against the govt @cycleman

No one has the balls to stop China. They’re emerging as the new world leader.
cycleman · 61-69, M
@Quetzalcoatlus I'd like to see China tell the US to get out of Afghanistan.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
@cycleman Already happening
[c=#359E00]why do you even have to care in the first place? [/c]
cycleman · 61-69, M
@YukikoAmagi it's sad to see when, why and when people in general care about others and what the issues are.
@cycleman [c=#359E00]that's not just the case, you just want to bashing China. Think about it, what happened there have nothing to do or effecting your daily life[/c]
cycleman · 61-69, M
@YukikoAmagi the money that goes there and for the pure crap they produce. Confuses me and seeing less value of China.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
