I’ve in favor of every state sending a voting package automatically to everyone who is a US citizen which includes voter registration forms and a ballot and a return envelope that self seals, no licking. Send out six weeks before election. Cutoff return date three weeks before election date. Announce results on election date. I’d have no prepaid returns, voters add their own return stamps. Eliminate voting in person. Work on an online OPTION elections.
I think everyone should automatically get a complete mail voting and registration package in one shot and not just those who specifically request it. The onus on filling out the paperwork and sending it back is on the citizen. Doesn’t seem like a huge burden for citizens.
Serious question. Which system is fair, and eliminates as much of the risk of voter fraud as possible?
Online voting is a huge no, IMO. Physical ballots can be subjected to fraud as well. The old fashioned voting stations with voting machines aren't without their drawbacks.
@quitwhendone
Why no prepaid postage? My jurisdiction has prepaid postage and self adhesive envelopes now. It's a pain to go find or buy stamps.
I agree. Voting by mail should have pre-paid postage.
I left that as a question. One would think there should be SOME effort put into voting. Filling it out and mailing it is effort would providing postage and saving the government money be just a little more effort or too much? @quitwhendone @beckyromero
Have Post Offices stay open late with drive-thru drop-offs like once existed on tax day before e-filing took over.
Pre-paid mail. No stamp needed. The state election divisions will be saving money by not needing as many poling places open. Have some open for people who need to vote with a provisional ballot.
Online voting? No way. We are nowhere near where we need to be to do that securely.
That kinda sounds like a good idea. My biggest gripe is that there aren't enough polling places; people end up having to travel really far and wait for hours on end to vote. It discourages people, you know?
Fair enough. So it looks like a two step process the ballots have to be requested before they are sent out. What do you think about just sending one package to all citizen that has registration forms if someone might want to register and the ballot? @SW-User
It works in Oregon, except your vote counts as long as it’s received by Election Day. If you don’t want to mail it, you can drop it off at the registrar.
I’m a big fan of vote by mail. Internet voting is problematic because it could be hacked. The current census is by internet, so we’ll see how that goes.
All the ballots just have to be run through scanners. If it’s all by mail they go to the same place. Picture a room of scanners and people EZPZ as long as they are honest. @MistyCee
@jackjjackson Higher voter turnout tends to favor Democrats, which is why most voter suppression is done by Republicans. Case in point, the 2018 gubernatorial election in Georgia.
Nope. The voting package is mailed to a specific physical address and when returned there is a signature comparison just like at the polls now. @SooperSarah
