Is the complacency of western governments gonna cost lives?

There is complacency of people too. Someone on here said that like China, the UK will be over the worst in a couple of months.

No way. All the countries which have achieved a reduction in new cases have quickly implemented rigurous testing and isolation proceedures. They were quicker to lock down too.

In Britain its already too late to avoid a situation currently worse than Italy is experiencing now. The virus has been here for weeks but schools and resturaunts shut dowm only friday. This will probably mean thousands more have the condition and are yet to show symptoms. NHS staff have not even been tested.

Less action now means more action needed later.

In addition, our government has been slow to transition to the war econony needed to keep basic services running at a time if crisis.

Radical solutions are needed and creative thinking. Hotels are going bust cos of lack of customers yet we are massively short of hospital beds so why not convert them into quaranteen centres for the mid risk infected? Why not spend money to convert factories to produce ventilators?

People are being laid off and cant afford rent yet we need manpower to do the things we need because our givernment is compmacent and has its priorities wrong. Unless you have a serious strategy for isolating the outbreak then you need a socialist style war economy to deal with the consequences of most of your economy shutting down.

All of these things will probably happen in a month anyway when the shit hits the fan but all of it should be done now. Speed matters. Being pro active helps!

Yet Boris the blowhard gets to do his press conferences and play pound shop Winston Churchll and our media praise him for radical action.

Im worried and pissed off.
Absolutely. As will the complacency of Western populations. Hardship for many is a blackout during football (either version). In countries that are no stranger to crisis in living memory they tend to be handling things better and banding together.
@Burnley123 Mostly okay. The the provinces really getting hammered are the ones with major international hubs and were probably in trouble before people even started to respond.

That being said you still have idiots defying voluntary quarantines throwing fits because they are being asked to stay home and watch Netflix. Nothing on the level of the Spring Break fiasco in the US though.

And our government seems to be getting things in order very effectively. The provinces have alot of leeway so they didn't really have to wait for a federal response. Also we have standing legislation that gives the Feds the ability ot act immediately. No need for emergency parliamentary bills really. That won't happen unless it gets so bad they invoke the War Measures Act. But within about 2 days of the feds announcing they would help pay for retooling our local distilleries were already pumping out disinfected instead of whiskey.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow That is not bad and much better than us.

The problem you have is that most if your country borders the US and they are gonna have big problems soon.
@Burnley123 Agreed. And many of our medical professionals and even some politicians are very worried and this thing doesn't care about imaginary lines on a map.

Most people outside Canada would necessarily pick up on it though since like Brits we are very good at stating things so politely you almost miss the unstated bits.

You should be worried and pissed off. Governments have not taken this seriously, and their inaction WILL cost lives that could have been saved, to their everlasting shame. History will remember them for what they didn't do when called upon.
all the politicians who made us all dependent on the red dragon for a bag of silver over the decades. be held accountable?..

Pfff

Unless you have zero interaction with Chiba, there was literally no way of stopping sone people in the west getting unfected. There was a chance if isolating it and minimising cases.

By 'the west' i also include your native Australia and its PM who takes a holiday when his country burns.
lolz. he was on holiday already and came home.. turn off your tv panic merchant.

I don’t trust anyone’s government
