Are most of the political post on here just about trolling?

I think they are these days and there is very little worth responding to. Its only name calling or trying to annoy people. Its healthy to criticise but so so many posts are not constructive criticism, just playground taunting and these are usually the people who post the most.

I think this is true of the left and the right BTW. There are a few notable exceptions.

A certain segment of the population _only_ understands juvenile taunting, though. If we are to "reach across the aisle", as it were, then we have to be able to speak to them on their level, do you not agree?

Those mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, shit-eating bigots can go fuck themselves and anyone who thinks they deserve respect is invited to join them.

@daisymay I'm not advocating none partisanship. I'm solidly left in any context. I really hate the Sorkin idea of left and right working together for the greater good of the whole. If you are properly left, then you should want different things.

Its about culture of political engagement.

I don't think these posts are really trolling. Although getting a rise out of opponents is certainly a part of it, I think the purpose is tribalism.

If someone posts idiotic shit about baby Trump or Obiden or whatever else they're looking for applause from folks on the same team as them - and they can then collectively sneer at the opponents who show up to talk about how stupid the post was. The end result is that their political affiliation is affirmed and they feel like a part of something.

Important to rebut nonsense spouted as political fact though.
Or political fact that is nonsense come to that.

@MartinII Nobody has perfect manners all the tine but I think your etiquette is fine. You debate reasonably, even when you strongly disagree with me (which is often 😉)
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 Well, that’s very kind of you to say so!
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 Challenge it certainly, but if possible with reasoned argument. I’m afraid, as I said before, what one person thinks is b/s the next person may well agree with and, by their own lights, perhaps with good reason.. And by the way, I don’t think 20 somethings are more opinionated than anyone else!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Actually, if you look closely at a couple of the regular posters here in politics you will find a few, like markpaul, that are actually several persons, masquerading as one person, regurgitating the daily talking points from organizations like media matters

@Burnley123 Still up at 3am posting?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Its 19.27 Gmt now and that post was an hour ago.

So actually you are wrong.
Taking their cue from Donald Trump. Gone are the days of civilized discourse, which has given way to out and out hatred. Because they hate each other. I don't see how we can come back from this in our country, whatever happens in 2020.
so.. why is adam shit upset he wasnt told about the terrorist raid?
surely hes got a whistleblower or 3 to fill him in the details?.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You really think this type of nonsense bothers him ?

All it does is confirm what a total retard you are.
@RodionRomanovitch
Oh goody. We’re back to you thinking I give a shit what you think..
😎👍
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You don't think.
xixgun · M
Pretty much
Most of the media regardless of political parties are FEARBASED and regardless of claiming "non-partison" It's all about ratings and marketing.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Grateful4you Its also true of the British media. Its what's produced this ultra antagonistic culture where you see the other side as evil and incomprehensible rather than just wrong.
Budwick · 70-79, M
I think I would actually agree!

Trouble begins when facts are laid out,
and the opposition refutes it.
Like the transcript of the phone call.
It clearly illustrates no wrong doing on the part of the president.
So, the response by the left id to begin secret impeachment hearings that the house never voted to begin!

Discuss.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Budwick I'll happily leave that for others to judge, Jackson. 😎
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 That again?
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Budwick It wasn't a transcript.
Pherick · 41-45, M
Yep, it's amazing how after blocking most of the obvious trolls that political posts turn into wastelands of "This message was deleted".
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
I had to put on ignore the worst offender just the other day. First time I've ever done that ..... and we're on the same side !
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
Lots of hate seeds got planted last century, and now they're being watered.
Yup. I've taken to posting in pets animals and nature
DDonde · 31-35, M
Kind of. I don't think they usually have earnest intentions.
Blocking makes for constructive discourse, but you'll need a VIP account.

But you know what would be way more effective? If the left directed their criticism at the left and the right directed their criticism at the right. No VIP necessary!
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP For me, it's less about who you criticise but how you criticise
@Burnley123 true true, but crafting a criticism is very difficult and in the end, you'll find rather a lot of people you'll never reach. And when a bunch of haters descend on the debate, your well-turned criticism will count for nothing. On the other hand, when you pick subjects in your own camp for criticism with "I'm a x like you, but what I don't do is y or z so knock it off!" Takes a lot of hate out of there.
