Will Trump be like Nixon and resign?

Or will he try to stay because of his ego?
beckyromero · 36-40, F
He'll probably have to be dragged out of the White House while kicking and swearing.
Groofydorkgerdo · 56-60, M
They wanted to impeach him for eating steak.
They wanted to empeach him for wanting to live in his own home.
They wanted to empeach him for wanting to use his own plane.

[c=#BF0000]He'd never resign. He wouldn't even leave easily if he gets impeached 😂 he'd throw a hell of a tantrum [/c]
@SW-User I doubt he'd leave even if his term was up.

If he was smart he would make a deal with dems ...saying that if he resigned they would withhold pressing charges after resigning ...
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@SW-User Yes. If it were someone normal. But that does leave Pence as the president.. Think about that a moment....

He'll stay because a) he can't imagine that he might actually face any consequences for his actions and 2) he can't afford to ever be a civilian in the US ever again, because he will be open to so many criminal charges and civil lawsuits.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@DunningKruger He does have a record of firing people who dont agree with him..I always found opposing points of view the most valuable. Even if I disagreed, they added perspective and angles I had not considered.

@whowasthatmaskedman Would You Ever Go See A Big Budget Bio Movie About His Presidency That Was in The Movie Theaters & had an Actor play him
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@JohnOinger I look forward to forgetting him completely.
Nixon resigned when he was convinced it was over and that he was all alone with no support.

Trump still has support, plenty from his blind folded followers, still a fair amount from his accomplices on the Hill, and most importantly, from Fox & Friends, Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham.

As long as Trump is on primetime, I don't think he's going to resign.

It's a tough call. From the day he was elected my thought has always been that he would resign before he finished his term. I still think that's the case despite everything he's done to stay in power. Reason being is that, I believe, we've only seen the tip of iceberg in to what he's done. As the walls are closing in (and things like this separate server the WH has to hide his activities come more in to focus), alongside the worst Presidential polling in modern history, I see him walking away. He'll blame EVERYONE but himself so he can continue to sell his same brand of lies and enemies to the worst common denominator, and float away.
Of course, the second he leaves office he's going to be a private citizen who is NOT above the law. The SDNY has their eyes squarely on him so he might think four more years is four more years of protection.
Either way, he'll go down in flames.

@Ynotisay I hate to say it, but apparently his job approval rating is higher now than Obama’s was at this point in his presidency. And it doesn’t matter what you show them, his supporters will stay behind him as long as he’s still anti-women’s choice, anti-illegal immigrants, and anti-lgbt rights. He’s headed for re-election.
Ynotisay · M
@JP1119 Maybe with Rasmussen. Every President loses support over their term(s). But the highest percentage of support Trump has ever earned is about 46%. The lowest after that is Nixon at about 66%. According to Gallup, which has been doing it the longest, he has the lowest overall approval rating going back to FDR. 5% less than Truman and Carter.

But you're right on the nut about his supporters. Doesn't matter what you show them. But I'm not sure if it's as much about their support for him as it is their hatred of "the other."

And I really can't imagine him being reelected. I'm not a big poll person but every legit Democratic contender is beating him by a large margin. He's also being impeached so, for me, I think it's a little premature to even consider a 2020 election. Look what's happened in the last four days. We've got over a year to go. And I highly, highly doubt this will be the last bombshell coming down.
JP1119 · 36-40, M
@Ynotisay No, not just Rasmussen, the RCP major poll average recently had Trump with a higher job approval rating than Obama did at this point in his presidency.

And bombshells don’t hurt him.

Nixon only resigned because he was getting impeached following Watergate, Trump has yet to do anything that blatantly stupid
twofacetoo · 26-30, M
@SW-User I'm saying that you're pinning the blame for the war on Trump when it was already going on when he entered the picture, you can't exactly just pack up and walk away in a single day
SW-User
@twofacetoo Any president who continues these unauthorized wars is at fault. They continue them instead of ending them.

Edit: That’s why I pin the blame on Trump because he decided not the end these wars, he’s doing the same thing the former presidents have done. I would have given him credit if he actually practiced what he preached and ended the wars the U.S. has been in. But he’s not going that route. This would also apply to future presidents.
@twofacetoo He has been impeached now but, as Dan Henninger in the Wall Street Journal called it, it is a "Potemkin Impeachment" (all facade and no substance).

Deep down, most of us know the answer to your question. Richard Nixon should have never resigned. His so called crimes pale in comparison to near recent examples. President Nixon made one of the biggest political mistakes in American history, in my opinion.
Ego. He is the best at everything. But he can't take being the best loser.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
My money is on his ego.. and then he will want to play himself in the mini series.
