What do Americans think of Brexit ?

[image deleted]
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Speaking for myself, it just seems odd that the folks who pushed for Brexit had not worked out the details in advance. When people voted for it, they voted for an idea, not a plan. It all sounds like putting the cart before the horse to me, and of course chaos ensued.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Budwick I don't have any, but the people of Britain sure seem to!

@pismo
I kind of envy you
Now, now Piss - I'm sure you have some positive qualities too.
I can't think of any right off hand, but talk to your Mom -
she's always been good at pumping sunshine up your ass.

I think it's interesting to have to read all the Brits here disparaging Trump and the America political system while they themselves are in the political equivalent of a dumpster fire when it comes to Brexit.

You must know the EU is not going to give you a deal. They don't want to encourage others to leave and you are playing into their hands.

Either leave or don't but stop waiting for the EU to give you the deal you want, they aren't going to do that.
Nimbus · M
@SumKindaMunster Each side is making it as difficult as possible.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Nimbus Yeah there's a lot at stake so that is to be expected. Again though, you guys are self reliant and I am confident that everyone in the world will want to trade and work with you guys, so if you choose to leave, I am confident you will find a way.
Nimbus · M
@SumKindaMunster Thanks for your positive thoughts.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
England leaves, and the rest will follow
Nimbus · M
@nedkelly That's what the EU fear the most.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Nimbus Not really. Pretty much everyone is better off in the EU. It really is a good deal.

That's what makes the whole Brexit thing such a headscratcher.
Nimbus · M
@QuixoticSoul Good point!
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
I personally hope it happens. I think that it would be the best thing for Britain, and ultimately for Europe (though some countries of Europe probably don't see it that way). But sadly, I don't think that the politicians there have either the backbone or even the desire to make it happen. I think they're probably too worried that certain countries of Europe that are used to being bailed out financially would find some way to retaliate against Britain if they were to ever go through with it.

But I'm just an American, so what do I know? It's just my theory.
Nimbus · M
@TeresaRudolph71 The UK currently has the worst bunch of politicians in over 30 years.
BlueVeins · 22-25
National suicide. If Britain ever successfully gets out of the EU -- which is far from a given -- it'll still have to trade with the other European countries to keep its economy alive, and that means following EU regulations. With the EU, Britain had a seat at the table, but now it'll just be stuck out in the cold, forced to abide by rules that it can't even control.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MasterLee Historically speaking, weakened trade relations have basically never resulted in economic prosperity.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@BlueVeins we'll see

I can't speak for anyone else, but I feel sorry for the people. Your government seems totally inept, and unable to get anything done.
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode 😛

You know exactly what I am thinking now, don't you :)
AbbeyRhode · F
@Nimbus I believe I do. 😁

MasterLee · 56-60, M

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Now you understand why we had a revolution.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus Well it wouldn’t have if it hadn’t been taxed. This is why we learned to love herbal teas and coffee.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti taxation with representation is not so fantastic either
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MasterLee yeah I know
Nimbus · M
@SW-User I think that just about sums it up 😁
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I think the people spoke and as usual the politicians aren't listening.
Nimbus · M
@FreeSpirit1 Oh, they're listening but confused.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@Nimbus for 200 million years jellyfish have existed without a brain,politicians have to catch up.
Nimbus · M
@FreeSpirit1 lol, I agree.
GardenSage · 36-40, M
Britain would be better off partnered with the Ol US of A...

Let our gigantic turbo engine supply your economy. After all, we speak the same language and share the same lineage for the great majority.

We also lead the world in soft power- Pop culture influence... with economic, pop culture and military alliances all synchronized, prosperity can only result.
Nimbus · M
@GardenSage The 51st state?
GardenSage · 36-40, M
Nah... more like Canada but with more culture @Nimbus

shuhak · M
@Nimbus Hmmm.. eric or don jr.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@shuhak more fake news
Nimbus · M
@shuhak Correct.
SW-User
As an American, I don't care. Except that if they do leave, don't come expecting we will come in and save you if things go bad. And, please American vultures, do not go in and screw them if they get in trouble.
It is time to get Britain back to being a normal country.

@TeresaRudolph71 you know more then some of these scaremongering remainers who as you say have no back bone to take us out there gutless, and you talk a lot of sense
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
Most people don't know enough about it....and honestly unless there's some negative Trump angle (like can we blame something on him because of it), I think it's the usual "how will it effect me?". I'm in a business that could be impacted by it so I'm watching....
Nimbus · M
@luctoretemergo Good point but equally many Brits are in ignorance too.
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
There was a great movie here w/Cumberbatch (as I like to call him) about the process of how it was marketed to you guys...I think it was called "Brexit"...really good. @Nimbus
BlueRain · F
I don’t think about it.
Nimbus · M
@BlueRain Best way ;)
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
Sane Americans understand that it was a bad idea from the start that turned into a complete clusterfuck. But we have our own bullshit to worry about.
Nimbus · M
@QuixoticSoul That's true.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
