Vegan food tastes like crap

Change my mind
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
It's hit or miss, like all food in general. The thing about veganism is that it's not a specific diet, but more of a lifestyle. It's based on not eating certain foods, but everything else is fair game.

Oreos and french fries are vegan, and they're bomb. I think vegan chocolate chip cookies are tastier than traditional ones. The thing where most people run into problems with is vegan alternatives, such as Daiya cheese or veggie burgers. They expect those to taste exactly like the food they're substituting and get extremely disappointed when it doesn't.

Admittedly, a lot of vegan alternatives taste like you're eating a science experiment, but they're not the only options out there. Those things are mainly focused on serving as a bridge for people that miss the foods they're giving up by being vegan. Think of it as how food brands put out low-fat or low-sugar alternatives out there for the people giving up fat and sugar.

I was a vegan for 4 years and had a blast learning new recipes and trying new things. I had a lot of tasty, reliable meals I could make for myself and feel satisfied. It really depends on commitment more than taste alone

Good for you. I personally could never go vegan, because I love meat too much.@TinyViolins

@Djac17 The decision to go vegan isn't always about what foods taste good vs. which ones doesn't. More often than not it's a conscious realization that what you're contributing to by eating certain foods is morally unappealing to you

A person who loves meat as much as you do probably has never tried any vegan food since vegan food includes
potatoes, rice, oatmeal, veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds and many more things and there's no way those foods are gross.

Try eating a carrot 🥕 right out of the garden. Don’t wash it. Just dust off the dirt on your shirt. OMG it’s so yummy. 😋

Ohhh... do wash it first if you use any kind of chemical herbicide or pesticides.

Nope. You're right. They shouldn't try to veganize regular food because they have lot of chemical in it. Stick to natural vegan food

Change your own mind. The selection of vegan restaurants and grocery store items grows every week - try them. You don't have to substitute meat - you can have a perfectly vegan meal of whole, natural foods. You will never convince me that what's in a Big Mac is in any way better than what's in a garden salad or tofu dish. And I'm not even vegan.
Meat and potatoes forever!

Substitute organic vegetable broth for chicken broth in this recipe, and it is still delicious.
Like what kind of food.

I've heard the new Impossible burger at Burger King is almost imperceptible. I haven't tried it yet.
Djac17 · 22-25, M
There is no way I’m trying that. I love my meat. I don’t give a crap if it tastes the same or not.@REMsleep
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Djac17 If it tastes the same, why be so ideological about it?
