The thing that irritates me the most about american politics...

why are republicans red and democrats blue... red is the classic color of the political left...
AbbySvenz · F
Messed up as the laws and such are, and you’re worried about the colors? 🤨
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@NoSugar you would have to have the ability to comprehend it. Lets just agree to disagree.
NoSugar · 22-25, F
@MasterLee this was your one chance to shine... but you failed
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@NoSugar I shine all the time but I have to recognize that you will never comprehend.

Originally both parties used red, white, and blue as their colors; the association of blue and red started in 2000 with newscasters coloring the map to show the results. I'm not sure why the colors that were chosen were chosen, but ideology had nothing to do with it.

It's kind of a sad statement: both parties used to use the general unifying American colors; now they're strictly separated.

Regardless of color the democraps will still be jackasses
MasterLee · 56-60, M
The donkeys chose it

@ReganMcNeil just because you are a little slow in the head and seem to have problems understanding complex questions doesnt mean others are the same
MartinII · 70-79, M
Well, the Democratic Party was the party of the Confederacy, the Republican Party the party of the Union.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@MartinII very true

Man, if there's anything to get irritated by, i dunno if colours are it, lol
katielass · F
I cannot recall colours being associated with politics until 2000. And it was the media who started referring to them by colours. They may have actually made a point without realizing it.....blue is the colour one turns when oxygen depleted.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
Apperently it has to do with TV.
And these colours are fairly recent, since 2000.

But I'm actually intrested of someone that knows previous elections? If there was some association with colour?

TV explains everything I guess. 🤔

@MethDozer Yeah, so the articles are correct. I read your comment too. Just didn't know if it was valid, that's why I asked.
katielass · F
@MethDozer Really? That must be why the media chose red for the repubs in 2000, after the klinton regime.
MethDozer · M
@katielass Maybe
katielass · F
Helps differentiate the two parties on a map during election coverage.
abe182 · 46-50, M
Democrats chose the colors, republicans didn't flinch.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@abe182 they did not care.
ArtieKat · M
They can't spell "Colour" correctly in the USA anyway!

I don’t think it really matters in the bigger scheme of things as neither party is solely identified by blue or red.
okaybut · 56-60, M
I believe the right and left are eroding into cults. I believe the new true division is along libertarian lines.

In the UK, Labour (left) is red and Conservative is Blue. I'm with you ✊

It didn't become a thing until the early 2000s. Before there was no standard assignment for red and blue on political maps. Depending on the day and media outlet blue and red was used for either one. Sometimes even yellow wes used.
