I do not see how impeachment proceedings would have been in the Democrats' interests.

@QuixoticSoul

It's in the best interest of the country.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@beckyromero Failing to impeach Trump is in the best interests of the country?
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@QuixoticSoul

This was a vote expressing an interest to begin impeachment proceedings.

It's an ongoing effort.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@beckyromero The proceedings are doomed to fail and would motivate the republican base. It’s counterproductive to initiate them.

@QuixoticSoul
It’s counterproductive to initiate them.
History says otherwise.

Which party won the next presidential election after impeachment proceedings were started against Richard Nixon?

Which party won the next presidential election after impeachment proceedings were started against Bill Clinton?

@QuixoticSoul
motivate the republican base
They only get to cast one vote, though. If people aren't already operating under the impression that every one of his supporters will be voting, then I don't know what to tell them
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@beckyromero Nixon resigned in disgrace, and impeachment would have likely succeeded. That’s a dramatically different situation.

@daisymay There are a lot of people who aren’t all that happy with Trump’s nonsense - but if you make him into a martyr for the cause they might well overlook that.

Impeachment proceedings can't succeed until they actually begin!
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
A difference without a distinction. @beckyromero
@beckyromero The Democrats can start impeachment proceedings but they will never pass a Republican Senate, no matter what Trump has done.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Pitchblue

We shall see.

Timing is everything.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson
A difference without a distinction.
A criticism without a point.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
We all know that there will be no guilty of an impeachable offense finding in the Senate. Fortunately the real decision makers smarter than those on the list and apparently you realize that. @beckyromero
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson

Enough Republicans may soon come to realize that they might better being rats escaping a sinking ship than to go down with it.

Especially if the timing of an impeachment vote in the Senate is set for AFTER the election.

Susan Collins (ME) ?

Joni Ernst (IA) ?

Cory Gardner (CO) ?

Thom Tillis (NC) ?

Ben Sasse (NE) ?

Martha McSally (AZ) ?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You’re in dreamland other than the part where you acknowledge that the President be be re-elected 😀 @beckyromero
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson
other than the part where you acknowledge that the President be be re-elected
Just the opposite.

Impeachment proceedings against Nixon and Clinton resulted in the OPPOSITE party winning the next presidential election.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
There are not and will not be impeachment proceedings. The dem leadership has made that quite clear. @beckyromero
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackjjackson

Pelosi will only protect Il Duce for so long.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
So now it’s name calling in addition to an inaccurate reading of politics. @beckyromero

@jackjjackson
So now it’s name calling
I thought President Bonespurs likes nicknames?

He assigns ones to all his foes.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You’ve lost your objectivity.
