Should politicians (and public figures) be able to block people on their social media accounts if they disagree with their opinions?

Let's say they use their social media accounts for official business related to their position and engaging with their constituents.

Should they be allowed to block people and prevent them from engaging in what could be considered a public forum?
If you mean block a troll thats harrasing them and trolling them directly with bs then ya they should block shitheads

I may have misunderstood and thought you meant they should block the poster from social media entirely tho really for some trolls they really should be and some should be in jail irl really the shit some people post (sorry i cuss a lot nowadays) 😳

If they are using it for official business, then tough noogins. However, they should be allowed to set up a set of rules, allowing them to block out of scope/topic comments. Just as if it would be, if this was an in person public hearing, otherwise, the value of public comments will be lost in the noise.

Not one bit, it is a gross violation of first amendment freedom of speech for a politician to block anyone as they are our employees as government workers.

@Pherick LOL, as soon as you get over your impeachturbation

@sunsporter1649 Well unlike Hillary, trump did commit some crimes, whether he gets impeached or not, is anyone's guess. I am not really worried about it right now.

@Pherick LOL, and I have a bridge I want to sell you
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
No. Shouldn't have started using it for official business.

@QuixoticSoul How much did you pay for that kool-ade?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 For example, the Ambassador bridge, crossing from Detroit to Canada.

I don't think politicians should be using social media for any kind of official business. Other public figures can do what they want because they're not representing the government.

Not if it is related to their official business. They represent "The people". That means ALL the people not just the ones they like.

@curiosi Strange how none of my messages to Miss America, nancy pelosi, get posted on her twitter account.

@SStarfish Yeah, I remember that hashtag in 1947 #StalinsLifeMatters
Hmm

Well - yes. They shouldn’t overdo it, but in order to stop them being overrun by trolls they kinda have to be able to. Maybe instead they should just make blocked numbers public so that people can see just how many people they’re cutting out
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
It depends, if it's a trolling comment then yeah they should be able to block. However even if that's the case, they probably shouldn't be allowed to. People in charge should always be able to be questioned.

I think only in the case of a direct threat or harassment.

@SW-User That's what the secret service is for.
They probably already do just like certain people are black listed from public events.
