@easterniowegin I know what a federal republic is, jackass. I also know what an ad hominem is -- literally, "attacking the man" -- and you did it again during your attempt to weasel out of the fact that you did it.
Of course, me calling you jackass is also an ad hominem, but I think I'm justified in saying it on grounds of retaliation.
Luckily the US Constitution will always be "status quo" until the country is able to complete the ammendment process. It doesnt change on some emotional whim.
The Constitution has been changed thirty-three times since the country's founding, sometimes for much dumber reasons like banning ethanol. Establishing a fair system of voting is by no means an "emotional whim" -- in fact, we've had an amendment changing our voting system as recently as 1971.
Do you not see the problem with a simple majority rule, as many look to remove our national sovereignty?
Minority rule is the real threat to national sovereignty and it always has been. Unpopular governments are way easier to overthrow and/or destabilize. Just look at Syria, Israel, or Venezuela. They're all countries where foreign governments are using dissidents as a tool to attack from the inside.

@BlueVeins i called you ignorant...that is NOT a personal attack. You're just unarmed.

-Concern about outsourcing and loss of manufacturing jobs
-Fear of economic decline
-Dissatisfaction with the Affordable Care Act
-Fear of illegal immigration and violent crime
-Fear of lost intellectual freedoms/identity politics
-Fear of corporate lobbying
That's not to say I agree with or disagree with all of these reasons. It's just observation.

Because he is a smart person with great ideas. In spite of the mass hysteria, he has done a fantastic job so far. It used to be funny to see how the progressives would rejoice over bad news and despair over good news, but now I think progressives are about as funny as cancer. Trump is 'at least' one of the five best presidents this country has ever had.

Because the other party decided to coronate a candidate by running a weak field against her (the metric system is the hill to die on, Chafee....really? 🙄). When one of those other candidates gained traction, they used “super delegates” to keep their thumb on the scale to make sure the coronation went off without a hitch. Some Iowa delegates were literally awarded via coin tosses. The debates were scheduled on nights when they knew there’d be lower viewership just in case there were a gaffe that needed cleaned up. The entire DNC process was a farce that produced a flawed candidate whose sales pitch amounted to nothing more than “it’s my turn” and “at least I’m not him”. The DNC did this to themselves. As reprehensible as Donald Trump is as a human being, at least he emerged from an actual political competition and was battle-tested before the general election started. Plus, he was actually talking about issues with ideas behind them regardless of how putrid his rhetoric or how woefully unqualified he was for the job. His team also had an electoral strategy that focused on midwestern states, and her team took those states for granted. If you want to know why enough people voted for him, you have to factor in the hubris of his flawed opponent, her lack of messaging, and her team’s lack of an electoral strategy.

@SumKindaMunster That is the edge. Academia, media, silicone valley, and entertainment. Just add children who had no love or discipline in their lives becoming adults.

Most actually didn’t.
@basilfawlty89 Would you like a little ketchup for your poop, sir? You oppose yourself. You know good and well what happened, but you don't care.
"The end justifies the means." Right?
Right!
I'm not bothered too much because I know the filthy vermin will eventually get what is coming to them.

And Hillary lost the election.
Cuz we use the electoral vote system.
Cuz, it's better for America.
Imagine if that witch had become president of New York and California!

I guess they did for the same reason Brits voted for Brexit, or Salvini or Le Pen are voted in Europe. Globalisation brought winners and losers. Protagonists and underdogs. And the underdogs refuse to be invisible and ignored.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
The Democrats ran a shitty campaign and most likely screwed Bernie Sanders out of the nomination. So they pissed off a lot of likely Democrat voters with that mistake. Additionally, this weakened Clinton because she wasn't "battle tested". She never was able to put the email server issue behind her.
Trump did not "play nice" with his opponents and had no problem openly insulting them. They had no rebuttal, and looked weak and petulant compared to Trump.
The DNC conspired with the MSM to give Trump a lot of coverage in a failed attempt to use his words against what the DNC thought would be the eventual nominee. They never believed Trump would be nominated. (The pied piper campaign) This blew up in their face as they gave Trump a lot of free coverage and replayed his best insults again and again, building him up in the public's eye.
The MSM and popular culture smugly insisted that Trump had no change to win the election so a lot of people who might have voted for Clinton voted 3rd party or stayed home.
It was close, only several thousand votes in PA, WI and MN made the difference for Trump.

@SumKindaMunster Hillary being the very definition of "unlikable" contributed also.
Breeze60 · 61-69, M
Only 75,000votes in 3 states decided that.

Well...it's a two party system here so it was either him or Hillary. There was a wave of momentum from people wanting "change" from the perception of what many viewed as a stagnant/corrupt government. Trump was an outsider that many expected to flip things upside down....and in many ways he has. It's the same story no matter who is President in this country....you have the loyalists that will defend him no matter what, you have those against that will hate no matter what, and then you have the mass of people in the middle that live their lives and just wait until the next time they have to pick a favorite from a group of assholes.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Bravo 👏👏👏

Because the alternative candidate was shit.
If you need proof of this, 8 years earlier the same candidate was taking a strong lead and her own party shoved her out of the way, because they wanted someone with no experience whatsoever as their candidate because he looked good on paper.
If her own party didn't have faith in her, why should anyone else?

Three million more voted for Hillary. I can't believe anyone voted for either one of them. This country is doomed when those two are the best we can do.

anxiety - white male voters afraid of immigration, strongly against Hillary's trade policies with China, felt discriminated against and tried of being told their racist bigoted views were wrong. “the American way of life is threatened and Trump is going to save us”
