Is this man a Marxist ... ?

[image deleted]
SW-User
He's clearly an admirer of Marx work
He previously told Andrew Marr: ‘Marx analysed what was happening in a quite brilliant way. The philosophy around Marx is absolutely fascinating. Does it all apply now? Philosophy applies at all times.

Corbyn would like to see a fairer society where power is shared out better
‘Do we then take that as a way in which we ensure people have reasonable security in their lives through public ownership of the major monopolies, then I think that is a fair point to look it. It’s not unpopular with the public.’
From Metro.co.uk

One problem is Marx never specified the dictatorship that Lenin imposed in Russia, imposed in Eastern Europe by Russia, adapted in China, Korea, Cuba etc. That is Leninism not purely Marxist

@Nimbus if you admire something doesn't mean you are that. He's clearly a democrat for a start so arguably at odds with most accepted views of Marxism
Nimbus · M
@SW-User Possibly.

I remain open minded about him but either way he goes I wouldn't vote for him.
Egg01 · 56-60, F
@SW-User I was genuine in my enquiry. I know very little about Corbyn. It's one thing being an admirer of something and an entirely different thing to follow a doctrine to the letter or identify as a follower.
SW-User
Clearly not. Marxism, put simply, would have the government control the resources of, and the means of production of goods and services. Under Marxism, there'd be no private property, all owned by the state. That's just about as far from the policies Bernie and Corbyn set out as you can get.

In point of fact, if you really want to get technical and nitpick terms, pure socialism would have the populace, i. e. workers, control the resources of, and the means, of production of goods and services, essentially the exact OPPOSITE of Marxism.

Socialist policies of the flavor Bernie and Corbyn describe, I would say, are designed to 'unrig' the system to favor all of society instead of the owner class. Mild, at best.

Per, here's a description of the flow of money with these kinds of socialist policies.

Money > Government > People

Programs like this in the past provided roads, Fire departments, police departments, militaries, civic services... the indispensable things we already have.

Under a Marxist doctrine, here's the cash flow, as it were:

Money > Government

Under this... throw in hefty dose of corruption and you actually do get the Soviet Union. Cue the dramatic music.

To speak from a personal perspective across the ocean from you guys, I'd much rather have my taxes pay for some kid's education and a Cleveland granny's healthcare than line some rich dickhead's pocket.

Of course, this isn't going to convince anybody on this thread. If you're too dense to take things objectively, this will slide right off you.

Well nearly all labour or workers parties are. Marx got people to look at the world in a very different way. That being said the biggest and most relevant difference between socialists of Corbyn's ilk and a communist is their position on Lenin not Marx.

juicyjessie · 26-30, F
Wasn't it New Labour? Tories in disguise?
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@juicyjessie Which just means Tory. He said himself he saw his job to be carrying on what Thatcher did.
Rosejilly · 56-60, F
Meantime a few thousand geriatrics will tell us who our next Prime Minister will be. Bojo the Clown or Jeremy Rhyming-slang.

If you're reading this in USA Trump would be a sensible option compared to these two twats. That's how bad it is.
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
Who is it? 🧐
Nimbus · M
@cheesenpickles Jeremy Corbyn.
