Do you have any political views that a lot of people you know disagree with?

SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
Yes. I think a President needs to abstain from lying, from divisive speech and from abusive speech.

Others feel that our leader should be strong, speak out and say what’s on his mind.

So America is corrupt? What a sad view. I totally disagree. I believe we have had great presidents in the past.@Stigmata
@Stigmata Not all. The honest ones get taken out.

@SimplyTracie There might be something about politics, in lying. The convention no one can live up to might set that up. But it varies by country, my country is now laundered in a scandal where the PMO pushed the Attorney General to, essentially, abscond the corporation from criminal activity.
Yep. I won't vote in the major elections because the election system is just a sham. High officials get into office because they support the agendas of the higher-ups, not because they're voted into office. The whole system is counterfeit.
@Carazaa The entire system is sad. I'll vote when my vote counts for something.
Carazaa · F
How would you change it?
@Carazaa There's no changing the current system. It would have to be rebuilt within a resource-based economy rather than a monetary-based one. It's not that there wouldn't be any corruption at all within a resource-based economy, but there would be far less, and democracy would have a chance to prevail. What we have at present, is a portrayal of democracy. And as long as people keep buying into the portrayal as the real thing, nothing is going to change.

Some people I know are big into identity politics and intersectionality and I don't really go for any of that. It's not one specific position, but more a general outlook or approach to politics that I don't "jive" with.

Yeah - gun legislation. I'm not about confiscation - just registration. I don't think it should be easier to buy a gun than it is to vote. Lots of my friends think 2A means Wild Wild West for all.

How about yourself?

The entire world has to be reconstituted.. the system is outdated and needs to have been scrapped a decade ago.
@in10RjFox Much longer ago that that actually, but yes.

@PhoenixPhail true.. just as part of speech.. time for intellectual currencies like science $ , engineering $, and so on as against us$, euro$ etc.
I have views across the spectrum so I have people in every camp who hate me.

Sometimes they hate me for the same views and then I know I'm doing something right.

Yes. I think voting in America should be compulsory. To force all electoral bodies to provide adequate facilities under law.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Its easy fixed. Census rolls make everyone registered to vote unless excused. The usual suspects like being in jail or too sick to attend can serve as excuses. Dont vote, you get the opportunity to provide an excuse. Postal or absentee votes take care of the rest. No excuse . You get a fine.
This isnt an idle idea. Voting is the responsibility of every citizen as their side of the freedom/responsibility bargain. If you dont live up to your side you cant expect the elected officials to take you seriously.. AND THEY DONT!.
@whowasthatmaskedman In my case, you’re preaching to the choir. I’ve voted in every election since I was 18, to honor my ancestors who didn’t have that privilege. But our jails are already overcrowded, so I don’t see what you propose happening anytime soon.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard Neither do I. It doesnt suit the powers that be. Remember that old saying. "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing." Apathy is easy.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
I'm generally pro-gun rights, and a lot of people think that makes me nuts.

That said, gun nuts also think I'm nuts because I want more oversight - at least as much as we have with car ownership and operation.

But I'm used to that.

Yes, actually. I don’t support illegal immigration (although my reasons are different from Trump’s and the conservatives’). Still, it’s not a popular position where I live, for a liberal.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard Tbh I don't actually know anyone who supports illegal immigration 🤷‍♂️
@QuixoticSoul I do know some people who don’t think countries like the U.S., Canada or Australia have the right to keep people out because they were all founded by European immigrants or their descendants.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
no. I'm a decent human being. most people agree with my views. only stupid people like trumptards disagree
If I keep talking politics long enough, I usually manage to offend everyone entirely eventually.
The difference between me and some other people is that I don’t share my views.

I want to plan today for a world without jobs tomorrow. Most people don't believe automation will hit jobs that hard. Others think that jobs and work are important in their own right and that we shouldn't encourage people working less. Few people agree that we should be working towards a future where human work is optional.
