Old school Socialism is dumb

When there wasn’t a United States, there was never a government by the poeple and for the people.

We have devolved. We need a revision.

Big business and the power people have turned the republic into an oligarchy.

But, is Socialsm the answer? It is not.

Is there a place for socialist principles? Without question.

Anti-monopoly laws are not working. Technology is too fast. We need a way to enable companies like Amazon to be a benefit to all without enabling power people like Bezos to be an overlord.

We have elected a legislature full of the rich and the dumb. We need a new election system that puts more power back into the hands of the people.

For those that have all the answers to these questions....

With all due respect, you’re wrong.

There are no simple answers. It will require work, sacrifice, accountability and empathy.

So, what say you?

An overhaul of the internal party politics needs to take place (super delegates), money removed, a refocus of debate on policy, progressive tax system, cut off tax havens and loop holes, democratise the workplace, regulate finance and the flow of capital over borders etc, etc.

Nothing that hasn't been done before but now is deemed "radical"

@JoeyFoxx
research for the sake of research is wasteful.
This is absolutely not true.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Northwest This is the title of an actual research paper:

"A comparison of jump performances of the dog flea, Ctenocephalides canis (Curtis, 1826) and the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bouché, 1835)"

Literally to compare how high a cat flea jumps vs a dog flea

I am sorry sir, but not everything is of equal value. Some things are interesting to know, but in the grand scheme of things, do not need to be known.

We need to be rational in how and why money gets spent, to spend money on things were society benefits.

If there isn't a reason to understand the thing being researched, then it is, indeed, wasteful.

My apologies if you're not getting my point.

@JoeyFoxx Your premise, that research for research's sake, is not correct. Research for research's sake, is the very foundation of discovery.

My apologies if you're not getting the point of science.

I'm gonna suggest that the only people serious about tacking the problems you describe are those who call themselves socialists.

@JoeyFoxx
C’mon Jack. Deep down, younare better than this.
Jack? He blocks me, but you're absolutely wrong, deep down, or surface level, he is NOT better than this.

@Burnley123 I'm sorry :-) He can't even get his different aliases organized.

Socialism has a place in a progressive society. And humans are progressive creatures. I have no idea how "progressive " ever became a bad word. The Church was conservative. Science is progressive.
But back to cases. Socialism has its place in providing items for the community as a whole which business doesnt have an incentive to compete in. Broadly speaking it functions well in the areas of Health, Education, infrastructure, such as roads, power and water , and civil services like Police and Fire. For instance. The Abortion that is Obamacare (I will skip over why it was created the way it was) Could be simply replaced by a completely universal system based on a small income tax levy, administered by an expanded VA or Medicaid department and be much cheaper, totally inclusive and more effective in outcomes. Those who want to get more or immediate service are free to purchase extra insurance privately under similar arrangements to now.
In short, bug business works in most situations. But not everywhere. And thats where you need some socialism.

There is no such thing as a government without corruption- America is better than others. Governments are run by people, and people with power and influence are usually only concerned with protecting their own self interests.

I would like to visit Seattle!

The world admires America, and its hard to not have any problems at all with people from all over the world with all different ideas living here. And its difficult for most countries right now. USA, England, and Sweden all had a halted government the last few months. The whole world is unstable.

But as a Christian I think Christians in USA are a little shy from reading their Bibles and mostly watch TV evangelism which I think is not Biblical but political. Christian Broadcasting Network is Satanic with their witchcraft reading peoples minds, which Jesus warns us from. So the Christian right is brainwashed by witchcraft in the USA. Many people don't know their Bibles. So they believe what they here on TV.
Now I will stop! Thank you very much! I might write my own post about that ha ha.

One reason why Scandinavian countries have been happiest is because the Governments have been Christian for a thousand years and the parish pastors (hired and paid by Government) knocked on all the peoples doors around the town churches every week and read the Bible to the citizens. Everyone felt cared about. And crime has been almost nonexistent for about 1000 years since the Vikings. The philosophy is love not power in government. Now that's changing, The government of Sweden has not been Christian since 1997. And people with various other religions and values are living there.

Ya lost me now.

I have a Danish friend who is Wiccan and he never talks about Christianity and continues to love Denmark.

What's old school socialism, and who's advocating it?

Sadly, this is nothing new. Check out Ambrose Bierce's definition of 'corporation' circa early 1900s.

Perhaps if we made anti-Monopoly laws with teeth ala TR,so many acquisitions are making the "free market" a joke
