National Emergency?

I am not asking whether the declaration of a National Emergency by President Trump is legally or constitutionally justified; the courts - particularly the Supreme Court - will answer those questions.

I am, however, asking these questions: 1) since President Trump stayed in his declaration that "I did not need to do this" - the "this" being the act of declaring a National Emergency - how can he claim it is an emergency if, in his own words, he did not need to do it, and 2) how can he consider it an emergency when he - immediately after making the declaration - jetted off for a few days of relaxing golf at Mar-a-lago?

I have never commented directly to my own posting, but I just thought of this:

In terms of National Emergencies, President Roosevelt did not go golfing the day after Pearl Harbor. Instead, he gave the famous "day that will live in infamy" speech, and IMMEDIATELY began putting the United States on a war footing - a preparation that ultimately resulted in the defeat of both Nazi Germany and Japan.

Would President Trump have gone golfing instead?

@HerKing Trump would obviously figure out who he could blame for the national emergency, since he never takes responsibility for anything.

Instead of talking about "a day that will live in infamy" after the start of WWII, he'd be saying "our loser intelligence agencies failed to prevent the attack on Pearl Harbor. Everyone knows it. Our troops were lousy. But not to worry. Only I can fix it."
