So what makes this Trump Wall Emergency different?

Lots of Emergencies have been declared before by different Presidents. I did a little digging and This is the first time ever that a President has used his emergency powers to push through a project that the Congress had refused to fund as far as I can tell. As such, it really does open up a can of worms for the future. But I am sure it serves Trumps purposes now. Just another distraction.

ahhhhhh...well...you are partly correct.......Congress funded the Secure Fence Act of 2006 that directed "2 layers of reinforced fencing and the installation of additional physical barriers". Under previous administations, Congress did recognize there was a problem at the southern border. President Bush had no reason to use his executive powers.
As for this being a distraction, some might say his entire Presidency is a distraction.....distraction from Politics as normal which might explain why he was elected.

@JoeyFoxx True...the Justice situation was delayed.....but I believe that how Politics has worked in the past.

Acording to this, Obama's Congress was NOT the least Productive Congress....

...states that "
only one Congress has chalked up a lower share of substantive legislation than the just-ended 115th. That was the 110th, held after Democrats retook the House and Senate in the 2006 midterms during Republican George W. Bush’s final two years as president. Only 64% of the laws enacted by that Congress were substantive, by our reckoning.

It's not hard to keep up with it, so long as you read the facts and ignore the nonsense.

@river52 gotta run......nice chatting with you.

@river52 Go read the story about Congress again... and pay attention to the details.

What it says is that the current Congress has been MORE productive, including substantive bills and that, in fact, the congress from the 112th to the 114th (with Obama) were, IN FACT, the least productive in terms of actual substantive legislation. Don't only look at the share, look at the numbers.

As for the SC... it's a mess that both sides have created. The Democrats are as guilty as the Republicans. But that doesn't make it ok.

I am noting however that you are comfortable no longer talking about the relevance of the wall. It's a red herring conversation that frankly, has NOTHING to do with border security and everything to do with grandstanding.

It’s not an emergency. He’s just using that as a tool for his re-election.
It's not an emergency.

Trump is using this agenda to serve him for re-election purposes.

Nothing more than theatrics for the mindless.

@JessBalance It could be happening as we speak. But there is money to work with now, without this. I think its about the noise and colour and movement myself.

Well, I have hope we will learn from our lessons and move forward in a positive manner. That's all we can do ... and vote often.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@toodlepip Never miss a chance to vote. Even if its against someone or something.
And its a really good and juicy distraction, with a much bigger potential upside for Trump than a downside.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MistyCee With the red cap wearers certainly.. With the Republican party officials. Maybe not so much. They have to think beyond the next election.
@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah, they're squirming, but they'd be squirming right about now anyway, and pushing the issue may keep them loyal in the short term and behind him in 2020.
He hasn't done it yet. He keeps saying he is going to declare an emergency but it hasn't happened yet.
river52 · 70-79, M
@JessBalance you're a couple hours behind....I think he did this this morning...
@river52 I saw an online headline that said he he HAD but the article under the headline only said he promised to.
