Clearly there is something about Alexadria Ocasio-Cortez that I don’t know

I don’t follow American politics closely enough to know her as well as you will. Other than ‘blah, socialists’, what is it about her you don’t like? I genuinely want to know, I don’t want to be on the wrong side here

Lmao some republicans are supreeeeeeemely threatened by a boisterous, idealistic, and rough around the edges freshman representative.

And in their huffing and puffing, they're making her a star.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul She threatens the power and self-perceived superiority of the rich white men and women who believe they should run this country and that everyone except their elite selves should do as they're told and support them in the manner to which they are accustomed.

@Overwatch6 so that’s fairly in keeping with what I know to be your opinions on other Democrats? She’s not *especially* bad then compared to them in your opinion?

People don't like that she's opposed to taking money away from the working class and giving it to the wealthy. That seems to be the popular position in America these days. "Fuck working people, take their money, give it to the rich."

@BlueMetalChick Yep.. "Sheep are there to be fleeced." So sayeth the Wolf.

She comes across as inexperienced and pie-in-the-sky and she does not seem to defend her arguments well or think out her ambitious political ideas well. That does not mean that I am only in support of establishment septuagenerians, but there has to be something in between her fanciful socialist promises and status quo stooges. Ocasio-Cortez, to me, is all talk.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User Inexperienced yes, but pie-in-the-sky? Almost all of her proposals are to do things that every other developed nation on Earth does right now. That's pie-in-the-sky? To be as good as everyone else is?

I don’t know much about her. But I do known Republicans hate her so much. I do like some of her speeches and I hope she does well as a congress woman.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User well you are fixated.

@MasterLee Sure I am, on my life

@SW-User i know you keep worrying about mine but you will have to find your own.
I think we Dems should abandon these token candidates and get someone serious - If you stick a woman in there - she will get the votes because she is a woman. If you stick a black person in there he will get the votes because of guilt and his skin color ONLY.

Here is a novel idea, bring someone to the table that will get elected because they have PROVEN leadership qualities. Stop rushing to fill a slot because of Nationality or Religion ( oh God - no more Bernie ) or sex.

Our last prez ----- "Oh, our first African American president" , OK now show me the substance. There is no there, there.
@QuixoticSoul I did not think that.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@MarmeeMarch I just reread this entire conversation, and I'm still lost 😂
AwakenEdge · 51-55, F
I agree 100%, as a woman I would not vote for a candidate for being a woman, personally I think that is insane, I agree if they are male, female, black, white or green and if they have a proven track record and have some thought out ideas yes vote for them.@MarmeeMarch
Socialism is political economic cancer. She is insane and stupid like any other politician who is promoting socialism . (Look at the constant wild eyed expressions of American leftist politicians and you can see the madness clearly.) History has proven time and again that socialism destroy freedom, progress, and quality of life for citizens. Socialism at best is mediocrity that becomes economic ruin, at worst, it grows teeth and fangs and become fascism.
Cortez makes very stupid statements that expose the fact that she is mentally unstable, and that also contributes to peoples dislike for her.
People often refer to Scandinavian Europe as examples of socialism, but that is not socialism. Scandinavian Europe has constitutional monarchies with extensive welfare programs, but the key factor is actual integrity and honesty within the ruling class.

(The thing that is destroying Scandinavian Europe is toxic multiculturalism due to irresponsible immigration policies.)
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
She doesn't seem serious and she just wants the spotlight on her.
Her policy ideas sound like an 8th grader thought them up.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@FreeSpirit1 As in, when did Finland achieve that status or when were the qualifications for being considered carbon neutral get agreed upon?
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
@BlueMetalChick when did they reach the level of being a carbon neutral country?
Her New Deal proposal is totally pie in the sky, not a serious well thought out proposal. If you think it is serious then we will just have to agree to disagree.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@FreeSpirit1 Well, the obvious question then is if you think it's so unrealistic to do things like nationalize the healthcare industry or stop invading other countries that haven't attacked us or providing weapons and money to jihadists and terror states so that they can commit genocide, then how are so many other countries able to do it? It can't be impossible because the entire developed world besides us has done it. So why can't we?

If you feel that we can, but SHOULDN'T, that's an entirely separate conversation.

And, I believe Finland reached that status sometime around late 2014, or that's what the UN said.
Graylight · 51-55, F
She's been turned into the poster child for Democrats by conservatives, who have a long history of devaluing women, multi-diversity and progressive ideas.

She's really just a young, inexperienced and outspoken woman who has to be seasoned a bit. The other side makes her into the mouthpiece of the Democrats so they can paint them as far left and unrealistic as possible.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Graylight Those old white men on their mobility Scooters are going to have heart attacks when she makes President in twenty years or so.
People in their luxury trailer homes are scared their welfare will be given away to brown people. Because socialism.
She needs to think about her delivery sometimes. As Lane stated, she seems very inexperienced, but what do you expect, she’s jumping from being a bartender to a politician. It’s a different ballgame.
@MsAnnThropy hopefully that will have changed in 5 years time

good question, I was wondering the same

AOS's platform is easy to Google. You might look at her beliefs on "Green Earth" politics.
