BBC’s Question Time has become an absolute shitshow

I ignore it usually because of all the manufactured outrage but since it was in my city I thought I might as well watch last night. I only watched the first 10 minutes though because I had to stop before Suella Braverman took away any faith in this country’s humanity I had left. I didn’t get the feeling that that audience was 58.9% Remain either, if they were trying to make it representative of how Winchester is.

Pretty much most of the reasons i don't listen or watch the BBC in general anymore, or TV in general.

I can't stand the show. Especially when it comes up here. There is the occasional good one. Either through crazy bastards like the old highland guy shouting about not breaking up the union. Or the more rare show that is actually enjoyable. The only one that springs to mind was one with Alex Salmond in Liverpool I think. It was a while back and was frustrating as anytime he tried to make a point the others shouted over him about a 2nd referendum but nearly every point he got to make the English audience gave him the biggest applauses of the night. The others spent their time trying to make the audience hate him because independence, while he talked about the NHS and actual issues which probably convinced a few scousers they should come live here.😂

@thatscottishguy that's a good point. And I wouldn't want recent events re. Mr Salmond to cloud the fact that whether or not one agreed with him he was always thoughtful and eloquent (and, frankly, entertaining too).

(Of course it might also suggest that the SNP would be laughing all the way to sustained absolute majorities in Hollywood, if only they renounced at least for a few decades the idea of independence. But that's probably a discussion for another thread).

Well innocent until proven guilty anyway and even if he is guilty it doesn't change how good he was at his job.

I would say if they drop independence then there is no real point to the SNP and they would lose a lot of votes and members (including my own). Also technically to get sustained majorities in holyrood they actually need less people voting for them in a way. It's a weird system that was setup to stop them ever getting a majority. 2011 was a weird election were the 1st choice and 2nd choice votes were somehow worked out in them getting one.

@thatscottishguy Oh completely agree on the first point at least!

I'm not a huge fan of either (it's posturing, from the audience and panel alike, without really much to show for it afterwards), but Any Questions on Radio 4 on Friday evenings/Sat lunchtimes, is marginally better, if you're otherwise interested in political debate/discussion programs.

Only marginally, though.
@AngieB yeahh. I haven’t listened to that in a while, I should give it a go. I listen to LBC a lot which is better than QT sometimes although other times it’s disgraceful. About half of presenters there are fairly sensible and allow genuine debate rather than picking sides and throwing insults without getting anywhere

@SW-User 58.9% was the referendum result in Winchester

Indicative of the times or do you think it's the agenda of the programme ?
Have to say I haven't watched in a while.
I did enjoy Robin Day in the role of 'Grand inquisitor' but whether it was Dimbleby's blandness or I got sick of soundbite politics, I stopped watching some time ago.
@Picklebobble2 bit of both. The country is crazy but I still don’t believe that they’re that crazy, especially in Winchester, people seem mostly sensible here. The BBC certainly isn’t making any attempt to calm down the brexit ‘debate’, and that’s being kind.

And this is why I no longer watch TV
