What actually is the difference between Theresa May’s original plan and her plan B?

A few changes and clarifications that the EU wouldn’t even give us? I guess there was some stupid contorted possible bonkers reason for the slowness and indecision last month, but isn’t this just blatantly (deliberately?) wasting time now?

Her real plan is to keep this deal, pretend to negotiate and then hope that MPs fear of a no deal Brexit leaves them no choice but to accept it. Sadly, her plan might even work.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII I think Tory Brexiteers and the DUP will be the most difficult yo convince. The ERG have said they would prefer a no deal Brexit to her deal and the DUP don't like any deal which is different for Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.

To get the deal through, she needs to persuade Tory Remainders and back bench labour MPs.

@Burnley123 I think she’d have to move a long way to achieve that, and to get a majority she would surely have to carry not just Labour backbenchers but the official Labour Party (given that all pro-Brexit Tories would be against). I think my scenario is more, though not very, likely.

@MartinII I agree it's a tough ask but it's more likely than the alternative imo

@Picklebobble2 ooooooh, makes perfect sense, truly great prime minister, the ERG and labour will LOVE this solution
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@AndrewtheAlu About the only bloody thing she could change that would be approved of i'm sure !
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
How sad that Screaming Lord Such never got to see lunacy adopted as a political default position.
@Picklebobble2 at least they have a negotiating position
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@AndrewtheAlu Hell i'd vote for him !!
@Picklebobble2 Big Norman for PM!

I can’t work it out really..whoever is advising her is way off
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
The difference is this plan is her plan for a hard Brexit , wearing the skin of the plan that was already rejected. Remember that the hard Brexit is automatic unless the ship changes course.
@whowasthatmaskedman yeah but she will also know about all these possible backbench motions that could prevent that. And if she wanted a hard brexit, why not just go along with it? The ERG would back her and so would most of her loyal career politicians who voted for this deal. It wouldn’t have a majority but it would be closer than this plan will have
MartinII · 70-79, M
@AndrewtheAlu I think it’s clear that May doesn’t want a so-called hard (ie no deal) Brexit. I also suspect that her Cabinet wouldn’t allow it to happen.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@MartinII I have long considered that May might be a Scape Goat, set up and backed to keep her there long enough to see this through, then be removed. A "Jim Hacker" candidate from the start. The Money people are pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

I think your right as the way things stand with the 29th of march enshrined in law .The only way to stop it or extend it they have to pass new laws get agreement from all the EU countries before anything can happen which there just isn't time for .They cant have another referendum as there is no time so were left with 2 choices deal or no deal
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Rhodesianman where there is a will, there is a way.
Rhodesianman · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 If there was more time I would agree but there is not .
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Rhodesianman I think the EU would extend article fifty for an election or a ref. Rumours are that eight govt ministers have told constituency parties to expect an election on Feb 28th. That's according to Stephen Bush in the new statesman who is very well connected. We will see if it happens but it must be under consideration.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
There is no difference , she is just wasting time, EU have made it point blank clear no change on backstop, what is she thinking making herself look stupid going back again , the eu won't back down
clinging to power at all costs??
[c=#7700B2]@AndrewtheAlu You're right, but politicians do seem to get into a headspace where being in office gives their life meaning.[/c]
MartinII · 70-79, M
@AndrewtheAlu But the entire country doesn’t hate her. On the contrary, opinion polls, for what they are worth, suggest she would have a good chance of winning a general election.
@MartinII yeah but they wouldn’t if we had a Labour Party with any actual policies instead.
Corbyn is making equal amounts of contradictory nonsense, and neither of them should be electable.

Plan B involved less thought.

That's about it!
@Nimbus but that implies that Plan A had some kind of thought

Theresa's plan is to stay in the EU
@meJess if that was her plan she’d have called for another referendum already and wouldn’t have been doing the whole meaningless ‘brexit means brexit’ sloganeering. But it doesn’t feel like she wants any of the options, like not even her own sometimes, it makes no sense
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@AndrewtheAlu I love the idea that we're all supposed to feel....'encouraged' that NOW she's decided to involve the other parties at home in compiling a 'wishlist'.

Quite WHAT she's spent the last THREE YEARS doing WITHOUT having consulted other representatives......🤬
