Can you be friends with people who don't share your political views?

SW-User
Yes, but it's limited if they are a Republican. Hopefully, they keep any passion for Trump to themselves. I would then only be capable of being polite to them if they were a MAGA A-Hole.

@Carla It's heartening to know some folks regretted their choice to be honest. I find support for him now unfathomable.

@SW-User i was discussing that very thing with my sister, this morning. She wasnt my choice either. But, i knew, too, that trump was a fraud. You cannot be older than 35 and not know what he has been about, his entire life.

It would depend on which political views we disagree with and how wide the rift is.

For example, I could never friends with someone who thinks the Holocaust didn't happen. Or who thinks anyone who voted for George W. Bush or for Hillary Clinton is evil and going to hell.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@jackson55 "California is what put Hillary over the hump with the popular vote."

😂

So? There have been a number of times in U.S. history where one state made the difference in either the electoral or the popular vote. It still counts.

And do you realize that there were more Trump voters in California than in any other state except Florida and Texas?
jackson55 · M
@beckyromero I beg to differ with you Ms Romero. Registered Republican voters in California are down to 23% in California. Democrats have a super majority there. To vote Republican in California is a complete waste of time.

Donald J. Trump 4,483,810

Absolutely. As long as everyone maintains their composure and integrity. It’s been my experience most can’t do that ...those who can and I are friends . Once decorum breaks down , I have no problem venting my displeasure. But it would be nice if everyone behaved .
SuperA · 70-79, F
I have had friends on both sides. It was only on this administration that someone I thought was a friend, turned things around. I was called an ignorant ass for not voting for trump. Needless to say I blocked this person fro my phone # and no further contact has been made.
SuperA · 70-79, F
@TexChik Thing is that this person didn't KNOW who the hell I voted for!! She only said this because I made the remark that I was tired of politics.........duh
TexChik · F
@SuperA it can drain you ... I get that 😊

I can, and am.
Absolutely. It only even really gets difficult when I have friends that can't. Even then, I'll try, but it's hard.
SW-User
I can. It depends how intrusive they are about it or If thats all they ever talk about.
Sorrowfulgaze · 46-50, M
Yes though its not always easy because politics has become so contentious these days.

Yep so long as they’re mature about the differences
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
Unless you are a radical extremist then yeah.
Cmstars · 22-25, F
If I couldn't, I wouldn't have many friends.
SW-User
yeah unless they're fascists
jackson55 · M
Sure, I have many.
masterofyou · 70-79, M
It is hard too sometimes.... I was good friends with a young lady but her radical values and beliefs made it very difficult.... I still love her but I guess she's moved on...
Cmstars · 22-25, F
@masterofyou Just curious, what were her radical beliefs?
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@Cmstars very far left hateful to anything to do with a moderate approach to things...
masterofyou · 70-79, M
@Cmstars she was anti-Semitic and of the musim faith....

imma be real with u chief - if your views go against my existence and are meant to suppress me - we are not friends.
Peaches · F
Sure! ☺️ I'm mature enough to understand and realize people have different opinions and respect that even when disagreeing.🌟
jackson55 · M
Yes, but if all you have on your mind is politics and nothing else in common then it may be difficult.
rhouse · 56-60, M
Yes. My best friend is the exact opposite of me politically but I am hoping he will learn. 😀
Quizzical · 46-50, M
Totally, though we would argue a lot, lol
I have some like that .. do fine if they can accept it
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Yes, but it's difficult
Unlearn · 41-45, M
Yeah easily...

Only to a point. I’m actually friends with a lifelong conservative, who’s a registered Republican. But she’s not a racist, so she doesn’t support Donald Trump.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
I dont have political views
