If a general election happens this year (UK) how will you vote?

Also could you state if you are Brexiteer or remainer? I'm a Labour member and remain voter. I'm interested to see how these dynamics intersect.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
I've always voted Labour but i'm seriously considering abstaining or spoiling my ballot if it's the same faces on the ballot paper this time.

In an age where we desperately need creative people with ideals and ideas, i've heard nothing from ANY of the 'contenders' that suggests voting for them would be a wise decision.

Sorry state of affairs it really is.

For what it's worth i'm a Brexiteer

@Picklebobble2 feel exactly the same way as you,
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2 I think Labour has some really good domestic policies and there are a lot of good ideas. Sadly I think that is lost under all the Brexit noise.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
I'm a leaver , and to be honest Burnley I have no idea how I would vote, after the antics of all the party's over last few years,
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Nyloncapes What worries me is IF they DO call another election, they'll have EXACTLY the same problem as if they'd had another REFERENDUM !
The majority of the country won't be CONVINCED, and a sizeable slice of the electorate wouldnt even turn out to vote !!!
MartinII · 70-79, M
Impossible to say at this stage. A general election will only happen this year if the Government’s Brexit policy is defeated. If that happens, no-one knows who the leader of the Tories would be, what their platform would be, or what Labour’s stance on Brexit might be. Even as a Brexiteer and a Tory sympathiser, I can envisage circumstances in which I would be tempted to vote Labour. However, as my MP is Dianne Abbott, I’d need a stiff drink first! 🤔

@MartinII I honestly had you down as a hardcore tory tbh. I'm glad you are not.

I actually like Abbott a lot though I guess her seat is one of the safest in the country for Labour anyway.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@MartinII how could any one vote for Abbott she is useless and did you see her on her figures and money when she did that debate , what joke interview
You know I’m a remainer and a green member
Possibility our local party could endorse the Lib Dems if there’s an election because they’re the only ones with a chance of removing tories here. And we’re a 60% remain constituency with a thoroughly useless MP who voted for the deal.
But that’s by no means confirmed and we might end up fielding a candidate anyway. In which case I’d probably vote for them but would still seriously consider voting for the libdems. Even if labour supported a 2nd ref they would have no chance of winning here so would be pointless voting for them

I would vote SNP, or maybe Labour, and I'm a remainer. I don't think a general election will solve anything though, unless either of the main parties can agree on a clear policy that differentiates them from the other. One of the main factors in all this chaos is that EU membership has always divided both main parties.

I voted Remain and have been a life-long Labour voter. However, I cannot see myself voting Labour for the foreseeable future.

Not only do I disagree with Corbyn on pretty much everything that he says and does, I believe that the way that he and the Labour Party have behaved in the last two and a half years has been to the detriment of the nation, post referendum. Here we are, basically two months away from D-Day (Disaster Day) and all he ever bleats on about is a General Election. How does that strategy even make any sense?
room101 · 51-55, M
@Nyloncapes Thank you. To my mind he is no different to Boris Johnson and any of the Tories who have used Brexit to advance themselves.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
@room101 think they all are using it for there gain, but then when ever have any of them not used something to further their career
room101 · 51-55, M
@Nyloncapes To be totally honest with you, I have no issue with a politician seeking to further his or her career. If they didn't do that, then how could they possibly hope to affect anything.

BUT, that has to be guided by the principle to serve for the best interests of the people who voted for them.

Maybe that's the problem. In this age of almost limitless information availability, we the people don't know what is in our own best interests.

I'm leave and depending on what happens to brexit, I will never vote the big three ever again....unless we leave with a good deal or no deal, then I would vote Tory if Boris or Mogg are leader of the party...would never vote Corbyn ...
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Platinum My Facebook wall is corbyn, myself and a group of fellow momentum activists from the time I met him. 😜
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
One of reasons I asked is because labour is in a bind. It has ardent remainders and ardent leavers in its coalition. I'm worried that there is no way for Labour to go without losing votes.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2 OK, but if a best strategy doesn't exist, how can you blame Labour?

I honestly don't think they have any good options, just a choice of bad ones.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 They DELIBERATELY sat on the fence when the entire country was looking to them to provide something, ANYTHING regarding an alternate view to May's deal.

Yet they've produced nothing !
No strategy. No list of wants or demands. No refusal to stump up the stupid BN£58 the EU want for things May and co. promised to support (the country wasn't asked !)

It's unfathomable why the only logical alternative party would behave in such a way !
Platinum · M
@Burnley123 with Corbyn in the pockets of the unions, don't you fear the country will get destroyed with strikes...
I really hope that there isn't an election. Since I gave been of age I have always voted....I preach about how lucky we are to live in a democracy and we owe it to ourselves to understand what our needs are, as individuals, as a local community and as a nation. I have never pledged alliegence to one party but have chosen at each election.

I would be so disappointed if there is a general election this year because it will just prove that the political parties are putting their own agenda before the county's needs and so quite frankly I would have no trust in what was promised.

I would be at a total loss

I voted remain.
Ironicman · 56-60, M
I'll vote for a unified Party who can deliver the outcome of the referendum whilst taking on the likes of Google and Amazon.

Such a party will need to be created and it should Be called the Unicorn Party.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Leave.
labour. But only because they are the best of 2/3 evils. My politics alienate 90% of the population.
