Warren Buffett Shows How to Steal Money 'Legally'
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dozens of retired mailers with the Buffalo News could be losing their health benefits.
For more than four decades, employees have been diverting money from their paychecks into a supplemental health insurance program for retirement. It was part of a bargaining agreement between the Buffalo News and the CWA Local 14169 Union.
The company, owned by billionaire Warren Buffett, is now trying to terminate those benefits.
The Buffalo News sent a letter to more than 20 retired mailers saying their coverage would be dropped effective December 31.
"I think it's been in place almost 40 years, I mean contract after contract after contract. This is like one of the worst things I've ever seen. You talk about corporate greed, this epitomizes it," said Joseph Cannizzaro, union president.
A 2006 letter obtained by News 4 says all future retirees will be offered participation in a supplemental Medicare policy at no cost to them. A letter just sent to retirees in October says they will now be responsible for paying 100 percent of the cost of their healthcare.
