This guy I know really just posted on FB saying Bush doesn't deserve a mourning day because Reagan and JFK didn't get one... What? Seriously dude?

I mean if he wants to argue other reasons why the late former President George H.W Bush doesn't deserve a mourning day and give actual correct facts/information to that or even just give an opinion then I won't say shit, but he's basing it off two other former late Presidents assuming that they didn't also have a mourning day... which is wrong because Reagan had a national mourning day and for JFK basically every day for the first two weeks after his assassination was technically a mourning day, but he also had a official national mourning day as well. Of course this guy wasn't alive during either time since he's my age, but I wasn't alive either yet I still know enough about history to know he's wrong/ to know the he shouldn't be saying things that he knows nothing about or hasn't properly researched... Also he spelt Reagan as "Regean" so I guess that speaks volumes...
Edit: When I wrote this I was tired and wasn't thinking 100% straight. This guy and I were alive when Reagan died but were still pretty young obviously weren't alive when JFK died. My mind blanked on that.

That guy sounds like a moron. Nixon left office in disgrace and was still honored the same as other former presidents when they died.

@SW-User One of my friends and I had to explain that to him. I have no idea why he suddenly thinks national mourning days for Presidents is a new concept and only given to Bush... I had the same AP American History class as him in high school and our teacher talked a lot specifically about JFK and the aftermath of his death which included the mention of his national mourning day so I have no idea how he wouldn't at the very least know that JFK did have a mourning day.

LBJ delared Nov 25, 1963 a national day of mourning for Kennedy. GW Bush declared June 11, 2004 a day of mourning for Reagan. I'd expect both of you were alive for Reagan's death in 2004, though I could understand why a young child might not remember the event.

@NaturallyPeculiar I totally understand. I remember a 'calamity' at the time of JFK's death, similar to 9/11. But all I truly recall are the images of the Kennedy children and learning that they wouldn't have a father any more.

Any clue why this friend of yours would be critical of a 'Day of Mourning' - is he just a blabbermouth?

I don't know why but he's acting like the "Day of Mourning" thing is a new concept that they're only using now that Bush died and he just started ranting and mistakenly said that JFK and Reagan didn't get one so neither should Bush.

Better to be quiet and presumed a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Not that I'm any huge Bush fan. But what a weird battle to pick 🙄
I remember seeing the funeral procession and John John (JFK Jr) saluting his dad.
🤦‍♂️ There's always one.
