The problem for American Conservatives ...

... who support Trump? Is always having to say you are sorry.

Is the left engaging in irresponsible rhetoric? Sure, but Trump...

That's the problem with "norm-breaking". When you break them, then nobody has to pay attention to them. Which is fine, when it is just you. Not so fun when it's the people you disagree with.

@WoodyAq He means Iran, because he’s a complete idiot and doesn’t understand anything about that situation.

@pagandad
Bowers' Gab social media profile was registered in January 2018 under the handle "onedingo", and the account's description was: "Jews are the children of Satan (John 8:44). The Lord Jesus Christ [has] come in the flesh." The cover picture was a photo with the number 1488, which is used by neo-Nazis and white supremacists to evoke David Lane's "Fourteen Words" and the Nazi slogan Heil Hitler. He had published posts supporting the white genocide theory. Bowers also stated supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory were "deluded" and being tricked.[44][45][46] He also re-posted content by other anti-Semitic, neo-Nazi, and Holocaust-denying users,[47][48][49] and he criticized President Donald Trump for being a "globalist, not a nationalist"[50] and for supposedly being controlled and surrounded by Jews. In another post, he wrote, “There is no #MAGA [Make America Great Again] as long as there is a [Jewish] infestation.”[41][51][52][53] Other posts attacked African Americans with racial slurs and images related to lynching, and attacked women who have relationships with black men.[54] He also used his online accounts to post conspiracy theories regarding investor and philanthropist George Soros.[55]
Leftist he was not, and he does indeed sound like the crap you posted in your comment.

@pagandad
You are an obvious Demonrat shill. I will NEVER apologize for supporting a president
You proved the OP point spectacularly well. Any criticism of Trump must be taken in bad faith and can only be made by an enemy. Its cult-like behaviour.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I think its an interesting post because most SW Conservatives are Trump supporters but I believe that half of the people who voted for him have a more ambiguous attitude.

I'm interested; do you worry that the party of Buckley and Reagan faces an existential threat because of the Trump?

I'm not American and my politics are fundamentally different to yours but it does seem that American Conservatism is morphing into something else.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Xuan12 Much as I don't like British Conservatives, I would take them any day over what you have in America.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Burnley123 Our liberals are our conservatives, and our conservatives are a mix of isolationists, closeted socialists, neo-fascists, and people who haven't noticed the GOP abandoned them.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Xuan12 Sounds a bit on the harsh side but I don't disagree. I think most American liberals would be centrist by European standards but obviously, Trump supporters think they are Communists. Bernie supporters would be centre-left.
Well, Woody, as you know I like the president and all I can say is....

@WoodyAq You're still a good man! VOTE WOODY!!

@EugenieLaBorgia Thanks. If I win, the first thing I'll do is demand a recount ...
@WoodyAq Watch out for the postal votes!!

@pagandad Lotta big words there. Not a lot of point...
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
We'll just give the president the power to amend the Constitution by executive order and then he can void the bill of rights and make any laws he wants!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@WoodyAq LOL, you keep believing that. "I voted for the war, before I voted against it." Carey was a trip, he gave me quite a few belly laughs.
WoodyAq · M
@sunsporter1649 That's a non sequitur.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@WoodyAq So was carey.
FrostBorne · 31-35, M
Why would I apologize for what I believe in? I voted for President Trump because I believe in the policies that he represents. I'm not ashamed of them or of President Trump's actions, therefore, I have nothing to apologize for.
WoodyAq · M
@FrostBorne American conservatism has a long, honourable intellectual tradition. It has worked for years at weighing different issues, looking at them in light of history, legal tradition, and philosophical understanding to arrive a coherent worldview.

So no, you "knowing what want" and voting for it does not qualify.
FrostBorne · 31-35, M
@WoodyAq And how do you know that I haven't done this? Knowing what I want to see happen comes from a lifetime of living, experiences, research, history, looking at both sides of the issues to arrive at my political views.

Also, this still has nothing to do with my main point, which is that, as a conservative, I have nothing to apologize for. How does my not apologizing mean that I am not a thinking conservative?
WoodyAq · M
@FrostBorne Because I don't believe there is any way you can think that Donald Trump is compatible with any reasonable reading of American conservatism.

If you believe it is, then you have misunderstood one or the other. Or you don't think about either.

@Waymore Sorry, I was using Conservative in the William F. Buckley sense of the term. Thinking conservatives.

Not addressed to you, obviously.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
What world are you living in where American Conservatives who support Trump are apologizing to anyone? Saying sorry is not something they feel they have to do, they believe you should be thanking them.
WoodyAq · M
@ViciDraco So you are saying they are sociopaths?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@WoodyAq Some. The rest are just good at compartmentalization.
WoodyAq · M
@ViciDraco Yeah. It's the latter conservatives who really piss me off, and who I was attacking in this post.
