Do u believe that Donald Trump is making race relations in the US worse ? ๐Ÿ’น

I do. It would be rather stupid to ignore his hate filled rhetoric over the past year and pretend that is he is not amplifying the fears of some Americans. And lets also remember his ugly words about the players in the NFL and NBA too.
What do you think. After this latest tragedy here in Pittsburgh, PA, do you believe that Donald Trump is causing some racial tensions to worsen here in the US or even across the globe. Let's talk about it. And while you are at it Google Robert Bowers if you dare. Comments please.

I think heโ€™s rather ignorant and his willful disregard โ€œfor the opticsโ€ influences those who are even more ignorant than him.

Burnley123 ยท 41-45, M
I really don't get how the the right wing people on here see Trump as non racist and Obama as racist.

If you acknowledge that racism exists and take steps to confront it: that does not make you yourself a racist. This is not 'dividing people' but acknowledging that a problem exists. It stems from a desire to have equal or fair treatment for everyone.

The 'colourblind' argument depends on the idea that there is no significant racism in America anymore. Or that 'black priviledge' unfairly disadvantages white people. I don't think either of these things really stack up.

Also, I'm not sure the defenders of Trump can honestly deny that there at least some racists in their ranks or that Trump does play to it. No Americans seem worried by European migrants or religions practiced by people of white skin complexion.

I get that people are angry with the status quo but is it minorities who are exploiting people or the rich?
Burnley123 ยท 41-45, M
@AnneHoney So the Democrats invent claims of racism to win elections and the majority of black people are fooled into wrongly believing that racism exists and their primary voting loyalty is based around solving an invented problem because only one percent of Americans are racists. In spite of them never having experienced any racism in their lives, they still want to vote based on claims of racism invented by the media and a political party.

The legacy of slavery has no impact now and the civil rights movement of fifty years ago permanently ended racism as an American problem. There is no institutional racism in the police or any other government service.

I don't believe any of that. It's just that racism is more subtle and hides behind dog whistles and plausible deniability. The reason why the South stopped voting Democrat was because LBJ backed the civil rights movement. Southern whites vote rebublican to this day.

@AnneHoney Your argument is stale and old, and typical of a Right wing ideological bigot. Nobody cares about Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson.
Nobody cares about Black Lives Matter, or the Black Panthers. These are if anything nothing more than White Liberal groups that are used in propaganda.
You sound like an old redneck hick from Mississppi, but I know your brain is not big enough to grasp that all Black people are not the same.
JarJarBoom ยท 41-45, F
While I can't blame him for igniting a few crazy people to do crazy stuff, he has done nothing to really unite people who have differing opinions when it comes to political issues. In the end, people who have their opinions will still exist and you have to learn that not everyone is going to carry the same viewpoint as yourself...not everyone is going to like you or agree with you ...but to this day he hasn't said anything meaningful to help this rift in america
SW-User
@Zonuss Yeah, they died under Obama's watch! Shut the fuck up with your bullshit. You don't know my friends, so fuck you! You know who killed them? Crazy Islamic radicals. That's it! End of fucking story.

@JarJarBoom I agree Jar. The educational system has been turned into a gambling gig. ๐Ÿ™‚
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@SW-User Well Obama was just another puppet himself. Just like Trump. So we are both idiots I guess. Want a cookie. ๐Ÿ™‚
SW-User
Why would he want to improve race relations? He rode into office by dousing the flames with gasoline. It's a winning issue and strategy for him. It motivates his base when he perpetuates others as the boogeyman, but to quote Billy Joel, he didn't start the fire. It's been burning for ages, and he's just the latest to exploit it. Others have used the strategy, but they've been more nuanced about it. Trump is just so callously ham-fisted that he does it out in the open with bombastic glee.
SW-User
All Trump did was build on the established "southern strategy" by expanding it to include Hispanics and using it nationally. The fact that it worked says as much about the voting public as it does him. For years, white America kept hearing about how it would no longer be a majority in a generation or so, would lose influence, etc. Trump just tapped into that fear and leveraged it. In other words, the majority of the largest voting block in the country felt marginalized, banded together, and then voted as if they were a minority voting block. This just solidified polarization that has been happening for ages.

So back to your original question, yes.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@SW-User The same card Trump used to win the 2016 election is the same card that will be his demise. Watch for it. Its coming. ๐Ÿ™‚
SW-User
@Zonuss I think so, too. However, it's a pendulum that just swings harder and more to the extremes each cycle. Instead of calm and rational debate and solutions, it will only get worse if someone doesn't manage to stop the pendulum. In the current environment, I just don't see a path where rational civil discourse and compromise lead to solutions. Both sides are currently in their trenches with their bayonets fixed and ready for battle. I honestly don't see this country recovering from this anytime soon.

He's clearly making things worse, and he's doing it deliberately, to pit his followers against others. He seems to think that as long as his base loves him, he can ignore the other 60% of the nation. He has emboldened white supremacists and others who hate, and hate crimes have increased significantly during his presidency. Unless he is removed from office, things will only worsen from this point forward.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@windinhishair I totally agree. These racists are now emboldened. It will only get worse because these anti Obama blockheads are deeply resentful of people of color.
And they actually do feel the same way that Robert Bowers feel but wont come out in the open and say it. Which is why this atrocity was done in the first place.
windinhishair ยท 61-69, M
@Zonuss Trump is so screwed up that he promotes hatred that gives rise to anti-semitism. And his own daughter and son-in-law are Jewish! He'll throw his own family under the bus to get the adoration from his loyalists that his ego needs to survive.

I do not. My own belief, based on personal experiences in my travels, is that it is takiyah which is promoting hatred. Trump recognized a singular, global threat to the world and tried to establish this as a point in the beginning of his presidency. Research 'The Project'.
EugenieLaBorgia ยท F
@Zonuss Let me say this. If people blieve that President Trump - or any politician - is controlling their minds, then they are weak and have truly earned the right of bleating like sheep. Personal evolution is decided by conscience.

No, I don't, but if what people allege that he is, be advised, it's on a par with the race card race playing and pandering Obama and his administration did dividing not only along racial lines, but monetary, religious and gender. Obama was a better orator than Trump, but he was also extremely shrewd and if you got in his way, even as a member of his party or administration, you'd be thrown under the bus: I Cite Van Jones (his Green Czar-avowed Communist) made too much of his views, tarnished Obama-he was gone! And too Reverend Wright, was thrown under the bus by Obama.

I have nothing but contempt for the Prez and his hard core supporters, but I I really donโ€™t think heโ€™s making it worse. Heโ€™s rather caused the ugliness to bubble to the surface.

This nation was dedicated to โ€œlibertyโ€ at the same time the constitution permitted men to hold other men as their property. That took almost two hundred years to remedy in the most strict legal sense and even now we have challenges to minorities exercising the franchise that are very thinly disguised ways to maintain power.

In time this era may be therapeutic, as it has exposed the lie of a color blind society. And, unintentionally, the Prez may contribute to bettter race relations long term by being a great example of what white privilege means.

Racism always existed everywhere. Itโ€™s just more fought against therefore visible in the USA. Far far fewer racists now than 50 years ago. And minorities never treated better than under the current administration or elsewhere in the world.

Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@AnneHoney Awww, youre so sweet. I love you. ๐Ÿ™‚
SW-User
Well, he's not exactly helping. On the flip side, I also think that far more hate and racism is attributed to his statements than he is actually putting forward. The stuff about NFL and NBA players are things he's also said about white people also. Trump insults everyone, so I think it's dumb when he insults white people all day, and nobody bats an eyelash, but when he insults a woman or minority, suddenly it's a big deal.
In regard to the PA event, that had nothing to do with Trump. The shooter hated Trump. He believed that Trump, the GOP, and the Democrats were all controlled by the Jews and were all globalists. So, I think we should try to differentiate between harsh rhetoric that makes tensions and disagreements worse, and actual incitement and dismissal of violence.

If the media was not so intent to twist the truth, ignore facts and downright lie, we would not have so many ignorant people hating Trump who has helped everyone. Helped minorities more than any president before.
AnneHoney ยท 36-40, F
None of that is true. Minorities employment at an all time high. Minority wages at an all time high. Minority wealth at an all time high. Minority home ownership at an all time high. 4 million off food stamps because they have jobs. Real change notbthe BS that has been promised for years and not delivered.@windinhishair
windinhishair ยท 61-69, M
@AnneHoney You need to check your facts instead of repeating talking points.

Minority home ownership is not at an all time high. According to government statistics, the highest home ownership rate for blacks for the period from 1Q 2014 through 2Q 2018 was in 2Q 2014 under Obama. The highest home ownership for all other races was in 1Q 2014 under Obama. And the highest home ownership for the nation as a whole was in 1Q 2014 under Obama. https://www.census.gov/housing/hvs/files/currenthvspress.pdf

According to Forbes Magazine, the gap in wealth between whites and minorities is increasing, not decreasing. https://www.forbes.com/sites/brianthompson1/2018/02/18/the-racial-wealth-gap-addressing-americas-most-pressing-epidemic/#25b3102c7a48

Whites have always made up the highest percentage of people on food stamps, and 4 million minorities have not been removed from food stamps because they have jobs.

Unemployment across the board is low right now. Trump has continued the trend that started under Obama, but I will give him credit for continuing the trend.

You forgot to address the fact that hate crimes against minorities is up significantly since Trump's election.

Overall, minorities in America are worse off than they have been, and things are getting worse with time.
Zonuss ยท 41-45, M
@AnneHoney This is also false. 20 years ago we had a way better economy than even now. And that is mainly because we had a more thorough economic background then. We lost 60,000 manufacturing jobs since the recession in 2008. AND we are still seeing jobs shut down even today. Plus America became a socialist playground. And the workforce is much smaller now, and so is your brain.
Thanks anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

Race relations in our country were tolerable during the 70โ€™s, 80โ€™s, and early 90โ€™s. Then something happened.... oh wait, we put cameras on law enforcement uniforms! All you people are naive. Nothing is worse than it has ever been race-wise; the behavior we are witnessing is just the result of the public being made aware of what has always been happening behind closed doors; sights unseen.

Abuse of power isnโ€™t something new; it has always been here. We just video it now.

All Trump is guilty of, and I am a Trump supporter (on some days), is making free speech publicly tolerable. Normalizing hate speech as free speech without really understanding the implications of what he has done. His own son-in-law is a Jew so I donโ€™t understand why he takes a neutral stand with hate groups.
