Why won't Trump just lead?

He should be able to present leadership that will get everyone working together for common goals. Why won't he do that?
lorne13 · 61-69, M
cause he's a 6 year old narcissistic freak
Because then he’d have to consider other people. It can’t be wholly about him if he has to cooperate with others. That’s not his “thing”.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
The simple answer is that he is incapable of doing so.
Watch Florence. This could either be a nightmare for him, or a wet dream politically.

I'd rather the thing go into reverse or fade away, but this is a big development for him and a chance to unite Americans in the wake of a common attack by a non human foe.

He just needs to not be tweeting about liberals and climate change not being real, or how unfair the press coverage is of him compared to other Presidents, and he'd be halfway there.

Asking him not to Pat himself on the back is probably too much, but if he does it, he should really remember, even Fox had footage that showed negative stuff about the response.
@daisymay True, but this one is big, aimed at the East coast and not Texas or Puerto Rico and it's right before midterms.

Think of it like a major miniseries during sweeps week and not some filler thing in early summer. The show will be bigger and it could mean a lot more.
daisymay · 51-55, T
Yes, it's certainly a win-win for him. Even if he starts gleefully talking about all the death and destruction and how it is going to make him look so bigly good.

I get it. For conservatives he can do no wrong. I'm just wondering why he doesn't seem to be able to lead. All he can do is provoke. It seems that government by spiting your political enemies is not the best way to look after the welfare of the population.

A leader should be able to get those with whom they disagree to work for a common, shared goal.
@daisymay Honestly, the guy has never actually had a real leadership role in anything before, aside from a privately run company, which has a dubious history.

I hate the guy more than most, tbh, but in these dark hours, he's got a chance to actually be a light for more than just those who voted for him.

I'd feel better about him, honestly, if I thought he, or his people were looking for a chance to shine, instead of just worrying about covering up screw-ups and misdeeds, and figuring out how to lay the blame on someone else.

The upcoming tragedies as a result of the hurricane on the way should not be politicized.
daisymay · 51-55, T
@jackjjackson Please. We're well past that.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Sorry. I don’t understand. What do you mean please? @daisymay
daisymay · 51-55, T
First of all your comment doesn't address the question as asked.

Second, stop being obtuse about what should and shouldn't be politicized. One side is not the arbiter of what can be politicized.

Bye now!

@MichaelJT But why won't he just lead?
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@daisymay Because as as Americans we’re not gonna just shut up and sit down.

Edit: My comment was for @MichaelJT

A fair question. So lets look at it. Trumps entire business history is not about Growing a business, which is really what your question is about. He trades off his brand, mostly with other peoples money, then takes a cut. So its no surprise Real Estate is his comfort zone.
In short he doesn't need people working together. He needs a deal and money.
Seems to me like he is trying to sell the country at the moment. The question, do you want to be sold?
daisymay · 51-55, T
@whowasthatmaskedman Too late. The ink dried when the check cleared.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Sure. But Trump is the kind of guy who would sell you the Brooklyn Bridge 5 times over without owning it,.@daisymay
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
I dislike the man, but he is leading in his own way. Bringing everyone together is going to take more than one person and mostly be caused by something like 9/11
daisymay · 51-55, T
@bijouxbroussard
But the GOP neither respected nor was willing to cooperate with those efforts
How much of it did Boehner get on the ACA compromise? 98%, but still not enough. Leaders don't capitulate 100% of their goal. That anyone would expect that is nothing short of ridiculous.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard Agreed. I edited the post to say successfully. That is why I say neutered by the way our government works. Rather than collectively working towards solutions, the legislative branch just wants to be reelected repeatedly. Obama certainly tried and helped pass the ACA which is controversial to people on both sides of the aisle. Obama was certainly better than Trump and did try, but Trump isn't more of a bad leader because he doesn't "get everyone working together for common goals". No president effectively pulls that off is the point.
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@daisymay I enjoyed this discussion with you. Thank you for not turning things personal. I see more logic in your responses to me than the simple quip in your OP. Have a good night
MarineBob · 56-60, M
He's sitting back watching them hang themselves
daisymay · 51-55, T
@MarineBob Why doesn't he just lead?
@MarineBob But he's not 'sitting back'. He's instigating dissension. And his lies will end up 'hanging' him. Remember Watergate ?
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
He can't do what he's incapable of. See the parable of the Scorpion and the Frog.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
Because he has very little leadership skills. He is a bully.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
It's terribly difficult to lead when no one knows what you are thinking on a daily basis.

There is a lack of logic, intuition and continuity to what he says and what he claims is important.

I suspect the reason he won't lead is that he literally doesn't know how.

In that regard, he's a lot like Obama

Because he CAN'T - simple. 🤷
