Im going to a debating group meeting tonight.

The debate is whether modern British politics is fit for purpose and whether ideology still matters.

I've read the preamble of the speaker and I disagree with the premise. The people other people turning up look like post grad students, journalists and academics so I'm a bit nervous.

I'm still looking forward to it though. I can debate politely with people I disagree with but one thing I can't do is keep quiet. 😎

That sounds like a lot of fun. Knock 'em dead!

And yeah, one of my major problems about structured debates is I often hate the premise I'm supposed to engage with and it's hard to argue tot he point rather than just go on about how the question itself is flawed.

@CountScrofula Their preamble said that they were disappointed with the level of modern political discourse. In the meeting I had to explain to them what Keynesianism was. I get that most people wouldn't know but this is a group with intellectual pretensions. Most things said to back up points were anecdotal and nobody referenced any books or stats.

At the end, one of the people came up to me and thanked me for my contributions but the main guy kind of ignored me cos I didn't agree with him, even though I was impeccably polite. So much for a free thinking salon group lol.
