New Poll Released: Nearly Half of Republicans Want to Scrap the First Amendment. Seriously?
Forty-three percent of Republicans think President Trump “should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior,” while only 36 percent disagreed with the statement, according to an Ipsos poll released Tuesday.

A large number of Republicans polled also took issue with the media in general, with 48 percent agreeing that the news media is “the enemy of the American people.” Seventy-nine percent said mainstream media outlets treat Trump “unfairly.”
The pollsters didn't ask whether the respondents wanted "bad" reporters shot or just jailed.

I just jumped on to post that exact story.
The first thing that comes to my mind is if anyone tells me I'm supposed to 'respect the opinions of others',just because they have an opinion, I'll tell them to kiss my freaking ass.
There are some people who's opinions SHOULDN'T be respected. They should be denounced. Looks like that holds true for 43 percent of Republicans.
Screw each and every one of those fascists. They're enemies of this nation

@beckyromero Can you imagine these two patriots saying that they supported Russia three or four years ago? BLOWS my mind how easily people can be manipulated
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay

Exactly. Or they just weren't very patriotic to begin with. Fake patriots. 😂
Ynotisay · M
@beckyromero The ONLY upshot I see from this entire shit show is that now everyone knows that the right, and their evangelical friends, are pure hypocrites willing to sell out our nation. F them all.
HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE POLES DONALD TRUMP IS RUNNING ON YOUTUBE - ASKING ABOUT OUR FAITH IN THE NEWS MEDIA?

He has been running them for about 4 days.

Bit by bit he is planting seeds of doubt. Which scares the shit out of me.

He knows how easily people are manipulated -- look what he has done to the GOP.

He can mind meld the weak minded but not all of us are gullible twats.

@lilteacup
HAS ANYONE NOTICED THE POLES DONALD TRUMP IS RUNNING ON YOUTUBE
That must be some sort of crime.

Forcing people in another country to run?

Maybe Mueller can add it to the list.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
I suspect Mr Mueller's list has expanded into volumes and he's biding his time until we get a majority adult Congress.

Scrapping fake news is not the equivalent to scrapping the first amendment.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@beckyromero I would like to see honest reporting. But it's obvious you do not.

@abe182
I would like to see honest reporting. But it's obvious you do not.
What's actually obvious is that I treasure the First Amendment. And you do not.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@abe182 Truth is often subjective. As far as I can tell the news Trump has an issue with tends to be as truthful as any other news.

If you want fake news you only need to look at the tweets Trump posts - there are lists of them available online demonstrating how many of them are false or, at best, misleading.

It probably the same polls that said hillary would win

You’ve got to be kidding me? This is the last thing we needed. 😒🙄 oh my god.

Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives.

our nation is in a bad way, our culture is run by fear of the "other" those that would trade liberty for security
deserve niether
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
O_o The Republican Party is dead. This is some kind of monstrosity growing out of its corpse.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Although I wouldn't call it "fake news", the Corporate News Media exists to sell advertising, not to seek the Truth. Fear, hate, and scumbag celebrities work best.
Ynotisay · M
@hunkalove Gotta' disagree based on my professional experience. Reporters from legit outlets work their asses off to get it right. There's a ton of vetting that takes place before a story breaks. If something can't be substantiated we don't see it.
The problem, as I see it, is that many TV outlets now rely on 'expert sources,' who they pay, to discuss news stories. There's a real difference between editorial and opinion.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay
There's a real difference between editorial and opinion.
Not that much different from the editorial pages of the daily newspaper, which ruled news reporting (and opinion-making) for over two centuries in this country.
Ynotisay · M
@beckyromero Well, it's changed a bit. In the old days they were used differently. Not as frequently and typically only around huge issues or with elections. I think they're used more today for a paper to 'make' the news via their stance. But they still don't intersect with news reporting. Totally different divisions.
Tracos · 51-55, M
Is that for real.......🙄
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@beckyromero That just means that 11% of them are trusting the government to only shut down the bad ones. A level of trust that many would shudder to think of giving a government. At least many in our culture.
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@Xuan12
That just means that 11% of them are trusting the government to only shut down the bad ones.
No, it means they haven't read the First Amendment. Or if they have, they don't understand it.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@beckyromero On second thought, ignorance of the first amendment is the more likely reason.
This entire administration has stepped up into gestapo territory. 🙄
fazer1k · 56-60, M
More hypocrisy from the Trump camp? There's a surprise.
