As a white male you DO have white male privilege. Just because you don't recognize it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

And how could you? It's all you've ever known?
Understand, this doesn't mean that no white male ever experiences a lack of privilege.
But you do have it. I don't know why this notion upsets you so much.

I am white and proud to be white, the same as black people are proud to be black - another excuse for the political correct nutters to protest
Graylight · 51-55, F
@nedkelly The white male has advantages, not special rights. I made nothing up, I'm playing nothing - I'm conveying information.

Why so defensive?
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@Graylight Show me the advantages?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@nedkelly One of your advantages is easier access to superior education. Use it and research this topic yourself.
4meAndyou · F
Omgosh...are you in college right now? White male privilege is such an ivory tower obsession. It hasn't really existed as a threat since the 1950's, began to be phased out in the 1980's and now white male bashing and exclusion are the norm.
@4meAndyou

This is important. It's a childish notion to claim that because there are other important issues, even issues that are more important, that this one is not🤷🏻
4meAndyou · F
@Pikachu It's about as important as where to put my used chewing gum.
@4meAndyou

That's your personal value judgement. I do not share it.🤷🏻
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
An independent tedtalk with a transgendered speaker is your support for a male/female experience.

Perhaps it's because it's used as a weapon
@Jackaloftheazuresand

What makes you think i'm female?

But yes, in some respects women are privileged. Mostly with regards to children. Which of course they are expected to make their priority, unlike men😉

@Jackaloftheazuresand

lol alright then.

But you'd be foolish to assume that because women get preferential treatment in things like custody hearings that male privilege is not a big deal
Femme4thewin · 22-25, F
I want y’all to remember two things: EVERYONE has privilege and having privilege doesn’t make you a bad person. Privilege is not quantifiable by a checkbox. When I took that stupid buzzfeed privilege quiz, they said I was “underprivileged”. Wtf does that even mean??? Yes I’m a black queer woman. But you know what else I am? Wealthy. That awards me an enormous amount of privilege. Does that make me a bad person? No! Even straight white men have sources of oppression in their lives. Privilege just means you move through the world a certain way. That’s it.
@Femme4thewin
having privilege doesn’t make you a bad person
Agreed. Refusing to recognize that privilege and attacking anyone who suggests you have it? Maybe a different story.
Privilege just means you move through the world a certain way
Well yes...but it means that the way in which you move through the world is with advantages that are generally denied to other people for no reason corresponding to effort, morality or skill.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Femme4thewin That's true. Having an edge is nothing to be ashamed of and it's something you simply inherit from society. However, once that knowledge is out there, using it at the expense of those who don't have equal footing calls into question ethics and morality.
Femme4thewin · 22-25, F
@Pikachu I was actually going to say just that! Refusing to recognize it takes you from ignorance to conscientious stupidity. But yeah I’m with you 100%

@Graylight Thanks. Love you too. 😂

@Randy4954 I'll vouch for good ole Randy. He's the dumbest dumbshit I've ever come across. He doesn't even have the privilege of an education. And, f trump... he's a big baby.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
I wonder if Pikachu is doing this as an experiment on us. There is no specified gender here so he/she is looking to see if certain people react differently to a man or a woman.

BTW, Randy is an angry asshole who hates anyone to the left of Attila the Hun. Though for some reason he gives certain pretty young female liberals a pass. No idea why that is. Maybe it's because of female privilege. 😂
@Burnley123

lol yeah he didn't strike me as a real thinker

i hate the term "privilege." a "privilege" is something extra that you earn. the things labeled white and/or male privilege are not extras. they're basics.

being assesed on your skills and not your race or gender when applying for a job; based on your credit when applying for a loan; being treated with basic decency.

Those are NOT extras. the problem isn't that whites and males have those things but that people who are not white and not male are not extended those same basic right and courtesies.

i'll also add that membership in a dominant group does not mean all members of that group have benefited. there are plenty of poor, marginalized white men. i think toxic masculinity harms men, too.
@kate21

Well said
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
It means I can have problems but that my problems are not caused by my race or my gender.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Randy4954 I have never been looked down on for being white or for being male. I can't give you examples of racism and discrimination which I haven't received.

I can give examples of angry white men becoming internet trolls because of other issues. Just sayin. 🤷*

*Notice how all the emojis for condescension are female. Maybe there is a reason for that. Libtard SJW site! Grrrr! I'm triggered.

@Randy4954 Sometimes things need to be believed to be seen. You want to be angry and find a reason.
ou then allow another to dominate which is exactly what this idiocy is about.
No I don't allow others to dominate. I just believe in equality. Do you think you have the right to dominate others?
okaybut · 56-60, M
Sure I would say I have white privilege...my great, great, great grandfather came to Canada and worked a farm of rocks. It took a generation to finally get the land well enough to produce food ( a lot of my ancestors died - my mom has documented it all). There was no government support. Was not even a doctor in the area. Due to his efforts and continuous improvement, our standing in society improved with each generation (my Grandmother was the first to go to a University). These generations helped build Canada to what it is today (half of my Dad's brothers died in the war). With this status came privileges.

I advocate our Canadian society staying open and welcoming to others who want to contribute to our society and gain the same privileges through effort. I feel in a couple decades we will also have Black, Indian, Chinese, etc privilege (in some industry sectors the notion of privilege for any specific group is gone). And if you go to India today, you would find Indian privilege, or in Germany, you would find white German privilege, o if you go to China today, you would find Chinese privilege, etc. Canada is multicultural and will likely alter faster then them in time.
@okaybut

cool cool
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
There is no such thing as white male privilege. This little conspiracy theory has been over-played at this point.
@MarkPaul
No... my assertion is you are promoting a conspiracy theory
Um...the unavoidable premise of which is that white male privilege is a conspiracy theory. A premise i reject and which you have failed to demonstrate.

Ah...i've now read the rest of your post and i can see you're making this personal.
Please collect your composure and return later.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@Pikachu Or, never.
@MarkPaul

Up to you, my dude😉
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
I think its total BS. You would maybe have a point 50ish years ago but nowadays. Aside from some racism which is condemned nowadays there's no advantage a white guy has over a black.
@NeloAngelo

There aren't any advantages of being white over black

So why are black people more likely to be shot by police or to receive a harsher sentence for the same crime?

There aren't any advantages of being man over woman

So why when identical resumes presented to a research lab are the resumes with a male named judged to be more qualified than those with a woman's name?

There aren't any advantages of being straight over gay.

So why can a gay man in america be fired or evicted from his home for being gay?

I'm sorry, but just because you're not aware of your privilege does not mean that it doesn't exist.

I feel like you missed one of her main points: She had no idea that she was privileged because she'd never known anything else.
Do you think you're somehow more enlightened?
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
In the US black people have more unliscened weapons. There's a higher rate of black on black crime. And there's black officers who have shot people so what there racist to themselves?

Nobodies resumes are perfectly identical. There's always subtle differences. Even then its a business they want to make money. Choosing a less qualified person just coz he's a man is stupid for business.

Last i checked being fired for being gay is discrimination and illegal and almost always leads to a lawsuit.
@NeloAngelo

So why is an unarmed black man still more likely to be killed by police than an unarmed white man? And you failed to address why black people receive harsher sentences for the same crime.

Sorry, i wasn't clear.
This was a study wherein identical resumes were submitted for review. The only difference was the gender of the associated name. The resumes with female names were passed over at a higher rate with the stated reasons being that they were judged to be less qualified.

Yeah, shocking isn't it?

video does not trickle down the phone lines. there is no such thing as video over internet. i tried many times does not work.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@Pikachu video takes more bandwidth then the internet service i have. i have 144k idsl. which is 0.144meg. regular dsl service is 1.5 meg. you can get low resolution video live at that speed. download higher quality video over several hours to watch later with that service. but with idsl is to slow for even downloading a move. most you can do is a short video clip of a few minutes at 200 dpi res taking hours of download for a few minutes of video.
@trackboy

Sounds rough, dude🤷🏻
trackboy · 22-25, M
@Pikachu yes its rough. some web sites i cant use as for some reason they send massive data for plain text. and when satanic bill gates windows 10 updates are running i cant do anything. the demonic bill gates took all our control away from when the up dates come down the line. even setting internet type to metered mode does not stop windows up dates. and bill gates wrote up dates to run top priority over web browsing so you cant do anything online when they are running.

Yes. As a white male I have everything and anything. My life is Fucking great and never get harassed or blown off for being white and male.

The only ones who go on talking about one's groups privilege are ones who do not recognize their own. It is all bullshit meant to divide over this micro-aggressions nonsense.

@Pikachu I have not seen you demonstrate your position to be correct in any meaningful way either.
